Appearing on Fox News Channel’s “The Faulkner Focus” on Monday, December 23, Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) commented on President Joe Biden’s shocking decision to commute the death sentences of 37 federal inmates, including those who committee mass murderers and stomach-curdling child slayings, in his final days in office.
The pardon of the dozens of murderers comes just days after the president decided to go through with the “largest single-day grant of clemency” in American history, announcing clemency for around 1500 criminals. Speaking on “The Faulkner Focus,” Sen. Schmitt said the decision ensures Biden will be remembered as “one of the worst presidents” ever.
Beginning, Sen. Schmitt commented on what the families of those who the murderers killed must feel, saying, “It’s two days before Christmas. I can only imagine the grief and the shock that these families are experiencing as they get ready for the holidays, remembering the loved ones that were lost and now having to deal with this sort of insult to injury.”
Continuing, Sen. Schmitt said that this is even worse than Biden’s other efforts to make it impossible for Trump to succeed, saying, “And I think Joe Biden, in his effort to ‘Trump-proof’, we saw some of that. For the next administration, whether it’s hiding the workers or things at the border, this is just beyond the pale.”
He then noted that Biden is, as shown by efforts like this to aid criminals and impede those like Trump who would represent the will of the people, one of the worst presidents in a century. He said, “And I think he’s cementing his status as one of the worst presidents in American history, certainly this side of Woodrow Wilson.”
Shortly later in the broadcast, he commented on some of the killings. Giving one horrific example, he said, “It’s important, as a former prosecutor myself, I think it’s important to talk about the victims here. Lexis Roberts went on a camping trip with her mother and Thomas Sanders. Thomas Sanders, on the way back, took her mother out and executed her in cold blood in front of Lexis, then slit Lexis Roberts’ throat and let her die in the woods.”
Noting that such is the person that Biden thought it was appropriate to show mercy to, the senator said, “This is someone that Joe Biden, on the eve of Christmas, decided to commute his sentence. This is nuts. This is totally nuts. And so, the outrage is real, it’s justified. And again, Joe Biden, on his way out, is again cementing his status as one of our worst presidents.” Watch him here:
Announcing the clemency, the Biden White House said, “President Biden has dedicated his career to reducing violent crime and ensuring a fair and effective justice system. He believes that America must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level, except in cases of terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder – which is why today’s actions apply to all but those cases. When President Biden came into office, his Administration imposed a moratorium on federal executions, and his actions today will prevent the next Administration from carrying out the execution sentences that would not be handed down under current policy and practice.”
He added, “The President’s criminal justice record has transformed individual lives and positively impacted communities, especially historically marginalized communities. In the coming weeks, the President will take additional steps to provide meaningful second chances and continue to review additional pardons and commutations.”
