A top official within the Social Security Administration recently stepped down as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) continues to investigate the government institution for fraud. According to reports, acting commissioner Michelle King resigned after a conflict with DOGE employees attempting to access internal data.
King reportedly fought with DOGE, led by Elon Musk, over the department’s request to investigate what ABC News described as “an internal data system which includes sensitive, personal information of Americans.” After stepping down, she was replaced by Leland Dudek, who vowed to lead the agency in an “open and transparent manner.
Dudek continued, “My first call as Acting Commissioner was to our Inspector General’s office to provide them an opportunity to oversee and review any and all agency activities, including my actions past, present, and future. Transparency is at the heart of good government.”
White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields said, “In the meantime, the agency will be led by a career Social Security anti-fraud expert as the acting commissioner.” He added, “President Trump is committed to appointing the best and most qualified individuals who are dedicated to working on behalf of the American people, not to appease the bureaucracy that has failed them for far too long.”
It isn’t clear whether DOGE was able to access the data they were seeking from King. However, The American Tribune reported on an “INSANE” issue Elon Musk revealed after discovering “significant inconsistencies” in the Social Security Administration.
On Monday, Musk wrote on X, “The logic flow diagram for the Social Security system looks INSANE. No one person actually knows how it works. The payment files that move between Social Security and Treasury have significant inconsistencies that are not reconciled. It’s wild.”
The DOGE leader said in another post about problems surrounding the Social Security data, “As a friend of mine described it, this is like an amazing puzzle, uncovering the secrets of an ancient civilization that went extinct … except it’s still around ”

Musk shared a screenshot of data that purported millions of Americans between the age of 100 and 200 are receiving social security, with roughly 1.5 million falling between the range of 150 to 200 years old. Musk pointed out the implications of this data is quite alarming, suggesting large-scale fraud could be at play. Musk joked, “According to the Social Security database, these are the numbers of people in each age bucket with the death field set to FALSE! Maybe Twilight is real and there are a lot of vampires collecting Social Security .”
One user in the comments section called for an audit of the the data, posting, “This is a massive fraud red flag. Over 20M “people” listed as 100+ years old in SS database? Time for a serious audit. Either we’ve got immortals gaming the system or some major data integrity issues.” They further noted, “Proposing immediate legislation: Mandatory annual verification of SS recipients over 100. We’re losing billions to ghost claims. Time to drain this swamp and protect taxpayer money.”
