As could be expected, the top Democrats in the House of Representatives lost it and had a freak out after President-elect Donald Trump helped reset expectations for a spending bill by pushing it from 1,547 pages to just 116, significantly trimming pork that many on the right argued had been intended to only help Democrats. Though the vote failed, the new bill Trump supported and Elon Musk promoted, seemingly in agreement with the president-elect, imparted upon Congress what the American people would be willing to accept, thus decimating the expectation that another bill packed full of pork will be treated as acceptable business as usual.
For reference, the original bill was a whopping 1,547 pages and included everything from raises for Congress to various leftist programs. Conservatives led by figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump lost it over the bill, characterizing it as Speaker Mike Johnson plucking defeat from the jaws of victory by backing down and going along with Democrat proposals after Trump won the election. The new proposal Trump supported is called the American Relief Act of 2024, just 116 pages and mainly focused on relief for those impacted by the hurricanes.
Posting about the bill on Truth Social, Trump said, “SUCCESS in Washington! Speaker Mike Johnson and the House have come to a very good Deal for the American People. The newly agreed to American Relief Act of 2024 will keep the Government open, fund our Great Farmers and others, and provide relief for those severely impacted by the devastating hurricanes.”
He added, “A VERY important piece, VITAL to the America First Agenda, was added as well – The date of the very unnecessary Debt Ceiling will be pushed out two years, to January 30, 2027. Now we can Make America Great Again, very quickly, which is what the People gave us a mandate to accomplish. All Republicans, and even the Democrats, should do what is best for our Country, and vote “YES” for this Bill, TONIGHT!”
In another post, Trump obliterated Chip Roy, saying, “The very unpopular “Congressman” from Texas, Chip Roy, is getting in the way, as usual, of having yet another Great Republican Victory – All for the sake of some cheap publicity for himself. Republican obstructionists have to be done away with. The Democrats are using them, and we can’t let that happen. Our Country is far better off closing up for a period of time than it is agreeing to the things that the Democrats want to force upon us. Biden is President, and it’s his obligation to properly lead. We’re there to do the right thing, and we can’t agree with what Biden and the Democrats are demanding. Weak and ineffective people like Chip have to be dismissed as being utterly unknowledgeable as to the ways of politics, and as to Making America Great Again. Put “America First,” and go for the Victory, even if it means shutting the Government down for a period of time. We had an overwhelming Victory just four weeks ago, and we’re not going to let the Democrats forget it so quickly!”
As could be expected, the Democrats were not on board with the new spending package. For example, according to the liberal outlet NBC News, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), a top House Democrat, said, “The bill is not serious, it’s laughable. Extreme MAGA Republicans are driving us to a government shutdown.”
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries wasn’t the only one. Also freaking out on Thursday was Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD). He, losing it and attacking Elon Musk, said, “The Senate Democrats, the Senate Republicans, the House Democrats, the House Republicans, everybody agreed, and then it was blown up by Elon Musk, who apparently has become the fourth branch of government.”
Continuing, Rep. Raskin attacked the idea that Elon Musk would be involved with the process is “intolerable.” He declared, “And that’s just an intolerable way of proceeding under representative democracy.” He added, “So, the Democrats are going to try to figure out how we can salvage the public good out of the wreckage.”
