Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) hosted a town hall event that featured some hilarious commentary from President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, who did not disappoint in the comments he shared about the current state of Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the state of Minnesota. During the event, Homan opted to provide Democratic Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey an easy way to stop ICE protests: “Stop being a sanctuary state, a sanctuary city.”
Congressman Gonzales introduced Border Czar Homan during the town hall, calling the border czar, “a patriot to our wonderful country who has spent his entire adult life protecting our borders.” Continuing to praise the no-nonsense border chief, the congressman said, “We’re all very grateful to have him as our border czar.”
Homan then started sounding off on the situation in Minnesota. Particularly, while speaking on a wide variety of issues and topics related to immigration, Homan took an opportunity to discuss the violence and unrest unfolding in Minneapolis, which so far has led to several arrests and the shooting death of an anti-ICE agitator who refused to comply with orders and attempted to run over an officer with her vehicle.
Homan gave a quick, easy fix for the anarchic unrest, saying, “The mayor and other local officials could fix this overnight by ending their sanctuary policies. Let us into the jails,” going on later to add, “Give us access in the jails so we can take custody of criminals in a controlled environment. Then we don’t have to go into neighborhoods to find them.”
According to a report from Breitbart News, officials in Minnesota say the violence and organized unrest agents are dealing with in Minneapolis is not happening in other states around the country where similar operations are being carried out. The big difference is in other locations, local and state law enforcement officers are working in partnership with the federal government’s efforts to enforce immigration law.
Chief Border Patrol Agent Greg Bovino spoke with the outlet and stated that a total of almost 25 assaults were recorded in Minneapolis over a period of 4 days. One such incident happened during a similar period in New Orleans where operations to capture criminal illegal aliens were also carried out.
“In Louisiana, Colonel Hodges, who is the Superintendent of the state police, helped tremendously to keep the agitators at bay when the line between peaceful protest and impeding federal agents was crossed,” Bovino told Breitbart Texas.

“His officers are highly trained and only one assault on a Border Patrol agent was recorded while we were there recently, here in Minneapolis, we have no such support,” Bovino went on to say during his conversation with Breitbart. Gonzales offered a ray of hope for those listening to the town hall in the form of a new piece of legislation.
Commenting on the matter, he said, “In Congress, I’m pushing the COPS Act, which increases penalties for those who try to harm law enforcement officers, including our ICE officers. It’s not always a gun or a knife-sometimes it’s bottle rockets, fireworks, frozen bottles of water, and other projectiles. Our agents are getting hurt out in the field, and there is no room for that.”
