Tom Brady’s personal life is getting attention again, but this time the fanfare is not revolving around his sudden divorce from his ex-wife Gisele. In an Instagram post over the weekend, Brady shared General Douglas MacArthur’s prayer that was written for his own son in an Instagram story that was shared by People.
Throughout the separation from his ex-wife, Tom Brady has been adamant that he will continue to strive to be an active father to his two sons, Jack and Benjamin, along with his daughter Vivian. The prayer which was published in 1965, says the following:
Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.
Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds; a son who will know Thee—and that to know himself is the foundation-stone of knowledge.
Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.
Build me a son whose heart will be clean, whose goal will be high, a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men, one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.
And after all these things are his, give him, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, and the meekness of true strength.
Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, ‘I have not lived in vain.’
Brady’s season ended in uninspiring fashion, as his Buccaneers got blown out of the water in the first round of the playoffs. Now, a long offseason awaits the fans of the greatest NFL quarterback of all time, as he reportedly is deciding whether he wants to continue playing football. Even if he does continue, rumors are swirling about which team he may suit up for next season, as it seems that he is on the outs with Tampa Bay.

In an interview with The Spun, Tom’s former teammate Rob Gronkowski spoke about the impending decision from Brady, saying this:
“I would say the more likely scenario is Tom Brady retiring.”
In recent weeks, the Brady camp has been quiet about the decision. A month ago, Tom said this to the media when asked if he thinks he will be openly discussing the possibility soon.
“I really don’t. I think what I really realized … was you’ve got to be really sure to do that.
And for me, you know, a lot of people have kind of gone through this situation … I’m going to take my time whenever that time does come.”
