Social media erupted after a shocking incident where a three-year-old toddler was suspended from a UK state nursery for alleged transphobia. Users decried the UK’s woke policies and slammed the Department of Education for characterizing the incident as “violent,” which is clearly absurd.
For context, British culture has been rocked by a fierce debate over gender issues, with some critics, including the famous author JK Rowling, drawing attention to the increasingly woke education system. Many other detractors have characterized the woke activists as ideological bigots, especially given the obvious absurdity of expelling a toddler for “transphobia.”
In any case, reacting to the story, prominent conservative activist Helen Joyce said, “Every once in a while, the extremes of gender ideology throw up a story that seems too crazy to believe, and a toddler being suspended from nursery for so-called transphobia or homophobia is one such example.”
Building on that point, she called the woke teachers to task. She added, “Teachers and school leaders involved in this insanity should be ashamed of themselves for projecting adult concepts and beliefs on to such young children.”
Supporting her argument, Lord Young, the Free Speech Union director, slammed this woke insanity. He said, “I would have thought that if your ideology is so rigid it justifies you punishing toddlers for not complying with it, that’s a powerful argument for discarding it in favour of something less dogmatic.”
However, despite the widespread condemnation, the Department for Education refused to apologize for expelling a toddler. Their statement read, “All pupils and staff should feel safe and protected at school and should never face violence or abuse.”
Continuing their tone-deaf defense, the department parroted tired progressive talking points. They added,” The Education Secretary has been clear that she expects school leaders to enforce good behaviour, and we are committed to a comprehensive programme of behaviour support for schools. Our Plan for Change sets out our relentless focus on making sure every child gets the best life chances.”

One of the most prominent critics was Katharine Birbalsingh, a well-known conservative cultural figure, who blasted the school in a viral post that gathered thousands of likes. She posted, “Toddler is ‘transphobic’. God help us all. ”
In the comments under her post, dozens of users expressed their anger with the decision to expel the supposedly transphobic toddler. One of the comments read,”the I hope all the toddlers in that nursery toddle out in sympathy with their oppressed, victimised far right brother.” Another one of the replies read, “I’d like to know the real context of this before passing judgement on whether the nursery acted reasonably or not. There are lots of these stories but no detail behind them.”
Other comments expressed concern for the child. One read, “That poor child will be wondering why he can’t see his friends. I would hope all parents gather together and support the family in solidarity for common sense.” Another one of the comments added, “Every parent who puts their children into this nursery should remove them or, if they literally cannot do that, all get together and challenge the nursery. If they stay silent, they are complicit in this child abuse. A toddler transphobic? Insane.”
