Recently, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, was hit with an investigation into his ties to communist China. The U.S. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced a probe into the leftist governor’s relations with the CCP, where Walz reportedly maintained a position in a Chinese organization that sought to cultivate anti-American sentiment.
It was recently exposed that, as a high school teacher, Walz received funding from the CCP to finance overseas trips to China, where students would learn about Chinese culture. While this activity may seem innocent at first glance, the Oversight Committee indicated that it was intended to propagate a negative view of the United States and glorify the CCP.
The Oversight committee took to X, where it announced the investigation into Walz. “Chairman James Comer has launched an investigation into Minnesota Governor Timothy Walz, Kamala Harris’s recently announced vice-presidential running mate, following reports detailing the Governor’s longstanding connections to Chinese Communist Party entities and officials,” the post read.
The statement addressed the questionable trips to China. “Mr. Walz has visited China 30 times, served as a fellow at a Chinese institution that maintains a devotion to the CCP, and spoke alongside the President of a Chinese organization the State Department exposed as a CCP effort to influence and co-opt local leaders,” it continued. “FBI briefers recently informed the Committee that the Bureau’s Foreign Influence Task Force investigates CCP activity that is similar to China’s engagement with Governor Walz.”
The committee added, “In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Chairman Comer is now requesting information, documents, and communications related to the CCP-connected entities and officials Governor Walz has engaged and partnered with.” The American Tribune recently reported on the letter from Comer addressed to Wray which called out Walz’s alleged affiliations with China.
“It has come to the Committee’s attention that Governor Walz has longstanding connections to CCP-connected entities and officials that make him susceptible to the Party’s strategy of elite capture, which seeks to co-opt influential figures in elite political, cultural, and academic circles to influence the United States to the benefit of the communist regime and the detriment of Americans,” Comer wrote.
The Oversight Committee chairman continued, “the Committee seeks information about the Chinese entities and officials Governor Walz has engaged and partnered with, as well as any warnings or advice the FBI may have given to Governor Walz about U.S. political figures being targeted by or recruited for CCP influence operations.”

“Despite bipartisan efforts to identify and defeat CCP unrestricted warfare against America, Governor Walz continues problematic engagement with concerning entities and individuals,” Comer wrote. He pointed out instances where Walz had met with high-ranking members of the Chinese government. “In March 2024, he met with Consul General Zhao Jian to discuss ‘China-U.S. relations and sub-national cooperation.’”
However, the Harris-Walz campaign defended the governor. “Throughout his career, Governor Walz has stood up to the CCP, fought for human rights and democracy, and always put American jobs and manufacturing first,” spokesman James Singer said. “Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will ensure we win the competition with China, and will always stand up for our values and interests in the face of China’s threats.”
