Tiger Woods has been the biggest star in professional golf for well over 20 years. He has set records and thrilled golf fans while changing the game and helping it explode in popularity with a new generation of fans eager to see what the phenom will do next. Even though Woods has struggled with personal issues, injuries, and professional issues, he still remains the biggest name in the sport, and scores of golf fans still follow his every move.
Now, as Woods enters middle age as a professional golfer and a father, he is making golf part of the family business. The 47-year-old legend is competing in the PNC Championship’s Pro-Am at the Ritz-Carlton in Florida, and the tournament has a unique twist. This particular event features pro and their children competing against one another in a two-day tournament.
It isn’t the first year Woods and his son Charlie have competed together. They also played in 2022 when Charlie was 13 years old, and the duo fared quite well in the event. For this year, the Woods duo played well on Saturday, with the younger player showing skills reminiscent of his father. However, there was also a Woods child in the mix besides Charlie.
Tiger had a special caddy Saturday for the event as his 16-year-old daughter Sam caddied for the golf legend for the first time. It wasn’t an unofficial job either, as Sam had an official top bearing “Woods” on the back, signifying that she was caddying for her dad. A post on the tournament’s official Instagram captured Sam and Tiger and read: “For the first time, Sam Woods is caddying for her father today ❤.” It is Sam’s first time working with Tiger, but not the first for son Charlie.
Charlie Woods has played the event with Tiger for four years now as the younger Woods has honed his game in anticipation of an eventual professional career. Sam and Charlie had previously served as “kid caddies” in the past, but this is Sam Wood’s first official time serving as her father’s caddy. Tiger has groomed his children to follow in his footsteps and admitted to putting a golf club in Sam’s hands as a baby. He said about his baby girl: “She couldn’t quite hold it. But it was there.”
It is a special relationship shared between father and daughter. Despite reportedly being “keen into soccer,” Sam and Charlie have been present and supportive of Tiger at numerous events over the years. In fact, Sam played a part in Tiger’s induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022. During the induction, she spoke of her dad’s near-fatal car accident years earlier. She recalled: “We didn’t know if you’d come home with two legs or not. Now, you’re not only about to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but you’re standing here on your own two feet. This is why you deserve this. You’re a fighter, you’ve defied the odds every time.”
Tiger Woods nearly lost a leg in the accident, but with the support of his kids, he made a full recovery and now appears to be primed to restart his professional career. However, that isn’t before he is going to play with son Charlie, flanked by daughter Sam in the PNC event. Tiger has recovered fully and appears to have his personal life together as well. Hopefully, he will get to play with Charlie and maybe even be caddied by Sam on the pro tour someday.
