Three Blue State Border Agents Caught, Indicted for Taking Bribes to Allow Illegals Into America

In some not particularly shocking but still infuriating news, three officials working for the United States Customs and Border Patrol along the California-Mexico border were caught in a bribe-taking scheme in which they let illegal aliens be smuggled into America in exchange for bribes, actions that empowered smugglers and, potentially, the cartels.

News on the indictment came on May 6, and was announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of California. Three were apparently caught as part of “Operation Take Back America,” which the Trump Administration put together to ensure the DOJ fully and efficiently wields its resources against both the cartels and illegal immigration.

In any case, the US Attorney’s office announced the indictment of the three corrupt agents in a press release, noting, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers Farlis Almonte, Ricardo Rodriguez and Kairy Stephania Quiñonez are charged in an indictment with allowing vehicles with undocumented individuals to pass through their lanes into the U.S. without inspection while working at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.”

Continuing, the statement briefly described how the three carried out their scheme, noting that they used scheduling for crossing booths to give smugglers a limited window of opportunity to carry illegals through the port of entry. It provided, “The indictment alleges that Almonte, Rodriguez, and Quiñonez revealed their lane assignments and hours they were scheduled to work the primary inspection booths at the San Ysidro Port of Entry so that co-conspirators would know when it was safe to transport undocumented individuals across the border with impunity – sometimes using code words to gain admittance.”

Adding to that, the statement described the other part of their scheme, which was lying about the number of occupants in the car so as to avoid scrutiny over the number of people going back and forth across the border. It said, “According to the indictment, the defendants falsely reported in the Transportation Enforcement Communications System – a database known as ‘TECS’ that is used by CBP officers – the number of occupants in co-conspirators’ vehicles to conceal the fact that those vehicles contained undocumented individuals.”

Concluding, the statement described the bribery aspect of the case, saying, “Almonte and Rodriguez are also charged with receipt of bribes by a public official. The indictment alleges that in exchange for money, they failed to enforce the immigration laws of the United States by allowing vehicles with undocumented immigrants to enter the United States.”

Commenting on the matter in a statement to the media, Acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden described the incredibly serious nature of this scandal, explaining, “Any Customs and Border Protection agent who aids or turns a blind eye to smugglers bringing undocumented immigrants into the U.S. is betraying their oath and endangering our national security.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t even the only recent case at the same border crossing. In 2024, now-former U.S. border inspector Leonard Darnell George caught allowing drug-carrying vehicles cross through the same San Ysidro border crossing in exchange for bribes. He was put in prison for 23 years for that criminal behavior.
