In a bonkers, incredibly irresponsible speech given in the wake of news that hundreds of DHS agents are being deployed to his city to crack down on illegal immigration and thousands of National Guard troops could be deployed to crack down on crime, as is currently ongoing in DC, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson encouraged his city to rise up and defend itself against President Trump.
As background, the fury from Johnson began with President Trump, commenting on the situation in DC and where will be next, saying, “To me, D.C. is very exciting and a lot of people say, ‘Whoa, where’s he going from there?’ Well, I have calls from politicians begging me to go to Chicago, begging me to go to New York, begging me to go to Los Angeles.” He also said, “Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent, and we’ll straighten that one out probably next.”
Adding to that, he claimed that Chicago’s residents are calling for him to take that momentous step and solve their city’s massive crime problem. He claimed, “That’ll be our next one after this, and it won’t even be tough. And the people in Chicago … are screaming for us to come … so I think Chicago will be our next and then we’ll help with New York.”
Further news established not only that the Pentagon has been planning a trooper deployment to Chicago for weeks, but that hundreds of DHS agents are being deployed to Chicago to deal with the illegal immigration situation. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said, announcing as much, “We’ve already had ongoing operations with ICE in Chicago and throughout Illinois and other states, making sure that we’re upholding our laws. But we do intend to add more resources to those operations.”
In response to all of that, Brandon Johnson went berserk. Giving an irresponsible and speech in which he called on Chicagoans to “defend” their city from President Trump and insisted that Chicago was built by slaves, a patently absurd and untrue statement. He began by angrily asking the mutinous crowd, “Are you prepared to defend this land?!”
He continued by insisting that Chicago, a city built by free economic immigrants who mainly saw it as a speculative opportunity to profit from agricultural sector growth, was built by American Indians and slaves. He said, “This land that was built by slaves, a land that was built by indigenous people, a land that is built by workers?”
Then, returning to the matter of the crowd deciding to “defend” Chicago from federal agents who want to crack down on crime and illegal immigration, he said, “Are you prepared to defend this land? The people united will always prevail. I need you all to stand firm, to stand strong if this president decides to continue to break this constitution.”

The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh brilliantly exposed Mayor Johnson in a fiery post on X, saying, “1) This is treason. Brandon Johnson should be arrested, charged, convicted, and then given the requisite punishment for a capital offense. 2) Chicago was not in any sense built by ‘slaves and indigenous people.'”
