Under Cuomo and Hochul, New York has gone from bad to worse. Crime ravages the state, particularly the “Rotten Apple”, New York City, the state government is attempting to crack down ever more harshly on its citizens gun rights, illegal immigrants are flooding in, and the repressive pandemic response destroyed many small businesses.
But now fed up New Yorkers are pushing back with defections from the Democrats meaning that the state might even have a Republican governor after this fall’s election.
That’s right: according to a recent poll, even New York City could be swamped by a red wave come November, with Repbulican Rep. Lee Zeldin inching past incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul in the state’s gubernatorial race.
News on that comes from the New York Post, which reported that:
Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin has edged past Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul by decimal points and the race for governor is now a dead heat, a stunning new poll released Friday reveals.
The independent co/efficient survey of 1,056 likely voters shows Zeldin with 45.6% support and Hochul at 45.3% with the rest undecided.
Commenting to the NYP about the poll result, pollster Ryan Munce said:
“The race has been tightening over the last few weeks and it appears that it is now a dead heat. The shift has been led by predominantly white and Hispanic registered Democrats defecting to support Zeldin, the Republican candidate.”
And the data from the poll shows that Zeldin might actually have a chance of turning around New York. For one, he’s winning big with independents and unregistered voters. The poll found that he’s up 47% to 38% with independents and 59% to 28% with voters not registered with either party.
Similarly, he’s gaining ground with Hispanics, with the poll also finding that he’s now leading that demographic 54% to 36%.
Zeldin, calling on voters to help him push forward in these final weeks and win the gubernatorial race, said:
“The stakes couldn’t be higher and the polls couldn’t be closer. We need every single New Yorker who is sick and tired of the attacks on our wallets, safety, kids’ education, and more to come out to vote and Save Our State.”
“This is our last chance to turn New York around by firing Kathy Hochul, electing new leadership to restore balance to Albany, secure our streets, and put hardworking New York families first.”
Zeldin is also pressing Hochul to come out of hiding and debate him, saying, in a letter written to the incumbent governor:
“It is my understanding you are desperately trying to get away with just one debate with Spectrum News the evening of Tuesday, October 25th. One debate may be the rock bottom standard you sadly aspire to, but it is not enough. It’s time for you to face the music, Kathy. No one has even elected you Governor and you are acting as an Emperor Governor running for a 16th term with tremendous contempt for New Yorkers.”
I just sent a letter directly to @KathyHochul, calling on her to come out of hiding and accept multiple TV debates across New York. It’s not too late for her to finally agree to provide New Yorkers the multiple debates across the state that they deserve. Read my full letter ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/en21VrQ4bq

If even New York is in play, then this Red Wave should be a big one. Now it’s just up to the Republicans who win to not ruin it with tax cuts for Big Business, accommodation of the left, and backing down on contentious cultural issues like they typically do.
