“This is a Fraud”: DeSantis Blasts Men in Women’s Sports

During a Friday speech at Liberty University, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took a swipe at male athletes who claim to be transgender women by slamming them as “frauds.”

Speaking on that, Fox News Digital reported, he said, “It is wrong to have a swimmer compete for three years on the men’s swim team, switch to the women’s team, and then win the women’s national championship. That is a fraud. That is wrong.”

The situation he was almost certainly referencing there is when Lia Thomas, the transgender swimmer who swam for the University of Pennsylvania and tied with Riley Gaines in the 200-yard championship event for NCAA women’s swimming.

Fox News Digital, adding context to DeSantis’ remarks on the matter, noted that the speech came shortly after Riley Gaines was assaulted while speaking at SFSU, saying:

DeSantis’ comment come just days after Gaines, an outspoken advocate of preventing female-identifying biological males from competing in women’s athletics, was “violently accosted, shouted at, physically assaulted, and barricaded in a room by protestors” after speaking to students at San Francisco State University.

The incident sparked immediate outrage from GOP leaders who are seeking to prevent biological males from competing in athletics against women. “It is stunning that in America in 2023, it is acceptable for biological male students to violently assault a woman for standing up for women’s rights,” Gaines’ agent said after the assault.

Though DeSantis was spot-on with his remarks, some wondered why he was speaking at Liberty University in Virginia when the state he is governor of, Florida, is currently dealing with severe flooding. President Donald Trump, for example, said “First Ron DeSanctimonious got outplayed, outsmarted, and embarrassed by Mickey Mouse and Disney, and now, while Fort Lauderdale is facing the worst flooding in 100 years, DeSanctus is on tour with his “shadow” campaign for president, instead of taking care of the people of Florida. A highly overrated Governor, just look at the Numbers!”

The point about DeSantis getting outplayed by Disney comes from DeSantis declaring that he would take on Disney and strip it of its privileges and then largely failing to do so.

In fact, the legislation regarding the issue would rename the district and tinker with the leadership structure of it, but otherwise do little. Under the bill, Disney would still retain almost all of its exemptions from regulations, still avoid most taxes and fees, and can still largely act like its own municipal government and even issue tax-free bonds.

And, as if to rub its victory in the face of those who thought DeSantis would shred Disney, the woke company is now going to host “the largest LGBTQ+ conference in the world.” Here’s what the Orlando Sentinal reported about the event:

Walt Disney World will host what’s billed as “the largest LGBTQ+ conference in the world” in September as Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to champion his victory over the company in the fight over the so-called “don’t say gay” bill last year and legislators crack down on diversity and inclusion measures statewide.

Out & Equal, a California-based LGBTQ+ workplace equality organization, will hold its 2023 Workplace Summit at the Disney resort Sept. 11-14, a Disney spokesperson who declined to be identified told the Orlando Sentinel. The Miami Herald first reported news of the conference Thursday.

The event is expected to draw over 5,000 people, who will discuss gay and transgender inclusivity and equality in the workplace.
