In a very funny twist this time around with President Trump, the Democrats that once held up nearly every bit of his agenda are struggling to even present a coherent plan for combating him this time around, shocked as they are by former Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to him. They even admitted as much to the New York Times recently.
Namely, some of the top Democrats, both in terms of media visibility and party power, whined that while they see Trump as a “psychotic” monster, they don’t know how to combat his agenda and stop him from utterly crushing them by carrying out his vowed agenda, from deportations to cutting federal waste.
Amongst those who got hysteric speaking to the New York Times on Sunday, February 2, was Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who said, “We have no coherent message. This guy is psychotic, and there’s so much, but everything that underlines it is white supremacy and hate. There needs to be a message that is clear on at least the underlying thing that comes with all of this.”
Also chiming in was the party leader of Minnesota, elected by the DNC for that role, Ken Martin. He, chiming in on the same day, told the leftist paper that he senses Democrats aren’t able to connect with voters. He said, “The policies that we support and the message that we have is not wrong. It is a messaging problem and a brand problem. Those voters are not connecting our policies with their lives.”
Also chiming in was Minnesota’s Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who said that the Democrats need to focus on economic issues. Bizarrely, given DOGE’s successes in cutting waste and corruption out of the federal budget, Sen. Klobuchar insisted that voters are angry about egg prices and see “corruption going up.”
Making those wild and probably incorrect claims to the New York Times, Sen. Klobuchar said, “There are people in the middle — and trust me, there’s a lot of them — that wanted costs to go down. Instead, what they see is chaos going up, corruption going up with the firing of the inspector generals, and guess what else is going up? Egg prices.”
In addition to a similar point about prices, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) told the New York Times that the currently directionless Democratic Party needs to get its house in order and start promulgating ideas with which voters can connect. He said, “Within the party, we need to make sure we have a very clear direction to go. We need to have our own ideas. We’ll never win again if we are just playing defense.”

Similarly, others quoted by the New York Times admitted that the Democrats are on their backfoot because of the all-out blitz launched by President Trump and his administration. For example, Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) said, “We cannot get caught up in every egregious thing he says, every insult he hurls, every ally he attacks and every executive order.” She added, “There’s just too much.”
Their comments come alongside Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader, calling on Democrats to fight Trump “in the streets,” which appeared to mean rioting. He said, “Right now, we’re going to keep focus on the need to look out for everyday New Yorkers and everyday Americans who are under assault by an extreme MAGA Republican agenda that is trying to cut taxes for billionaires, donors, and wealthy corporations and then stick New Yorkers and working class Americans across the country with the bill.” He added, “That’s not acceptable. We are going to fight it legislatively. We are going to fight it in the courts. We’re going to fight it in the streets.”
