President Joe Biden recently snapped at a reporter when she asked him about the prospect of obtaining a ceasefire deal with the Israel-Hamas conflict in his remaining days in the White House before President-elect Donald Trump returns to office. Biden, who appeared less than enthusiastic about the question, fired back at the reporter, making a snide comment.
Journalist Neira Kraus asked Biden, “President Biden, do you think that you can get a hostage deal by the end of your term?” Sitting in a chair with his legs crossed, Biden fired back at Kraus, “Do you think that you can get hit in the head by the camera behind you?” Kraus shared the clip of the interaction on X, writing, “I asked President Biden if he thinks that he can get a hostage deal done by the end of his term. He answered, commenting on the number of cameramen in the room.”
Furthermore, Kraus questioned White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about the incident, asking if Biden was “offended” by her inquiry. “I can ask for an explanation. A couple of days ago, the President was asked whether he is confident that he could reach a cease fire before the end of his term, and he gave a somewhat flippant answer, if you can explain what he meant by that. Why did he respond the way he did? Was he offended by the question?” she asked.
KJP responded, “I think the President, if you, if you know this President and follow this president, obviously, as many of you have, he’s taken this issue very seriously.” Restating her question, Kraus continued, “So was he offended by the question?” Jean-Pierre responded, “I honestly, I can’t even speak to that how he felt about the question, because I haven’t talked to him, so I can’t make a judgment on that.”
She continued, “Remember, we have American hostages as well. Who are there? We want to make sure we get them home working on this twice…” Another reporter questioned how Biden could be taking the issue seriously if he made a “joke about somebody being hit in the head” when being asked about the ceasefire. KJP claimed, “I just kind of answered this. I didn’t talk to him about it.”
Kraus pressed KJP, “I know you haven’t spoken to him, but I mean, you know the president and you know his mood, so was he frustrated by the lack of progress?” Skirting the question again, the press secretary said, “It doesn’t matter how many times you ask me this question, I’m going to give you the same answer. The President is committed to getting a ceasefire deal.”
