Podcasting Legend Joe Rogan recently hosted an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” with famous comedian Bobby Lee, where Rogan sounded off on liberalism. Rogan, who used to be a liberal, described how his former home state of California has descended into dysfunction as a result of the woke political ideology over the past several years.
At the height of the pandemic in 2020, Rogan moved his family out of California to Austin, Texas, in a move that sent shockwaves to the world of comedy. Since he fled the blue state, he has been credited with drawing other prominent comedians out of California and establishing a new hub in Austin.
Rogan described the notable difference in the demeanor of Texans as compared to the Hollywood crowd he describes as being “lost” in “leftist ideology.” The UFC commentator illustrates how the people in Austin are far more relatable and down to Earth.
“Austin people are great people. They’re really nice. They’re nice. They’re not sh*theads they’re not Hollywood people. They’re not lost in this fake world of leftist ideology that everybody’s trapped in. They’re just people, just regular people, mean and those people exist outside of these, these blue bubbles where everyone’s gone insane,” he said.
The conversation then turned specifically to liberal policies in California, which conservatives have criticized for contributing to crime. Rogan alleged the state has become “communist” while condemning specific policies such as no cash bail and the refusal to prosecute some crimes.
“But California went nuts man. It’s gone like full communist, it’s out of its f*cking mind and their approach to law enforcement is so insane. It’s so insane. The no cash bail, the letting people out for committing violent crimes, the fucking stuff not stopping people for stealing up to whatever money it is, was it $900 now I think. They raised it. They made it a little higher,” Rogan said.
Lee and Rogan specifically singled out San Francisco, which has garnered a reputation for lawlessness, homelessness, and open-air drug use in recent years. The two comics agreed that the Bay Area has become “ruined” by the politics that govern it, where Lee adamantly maintains he will not perform there.
“San Francisco is non existent. San Francisco, most of San Francisco is emptied out of like big chain stores and big department stores,” Rogan said while adding, “They ruined the city.” Lee then chimed in, “It only happened in the last year. Right? I just went I can’t do it anymore. You know, the people that you thought were aligned with you are like now now like mad at you about sh*t.”
Rogan proceeded to claim California liberals are part of a “cult” based on their political ideology, asserting their behavior resembles that of such a toxic organization that attacks differing beliefs. “They’re in a cult. It’s got all..I mean, Marc Andreessen, who’s a brilliant venture capitalist guy explained it to me in very clear terms. Like what the definition of a cult is how you can get excommunicated how you get shamed for having differing opinions. The group think the whole he’s like it’s a cult. And he’s right. Yeah. 100% right.”
