President-elect Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai, recently shed light on the heartwarming side of her grandfather that others rarely get to see. According to the 17-year-old, an avid golfer, Trump regularly leaves touching voicemails to check in on his granddaughter’s game after long days of work on the campaign trail and now preparing to return to the White House. While many view Trump as a formidable political figure, Kai’s perspective proves that he is still a family man at the end of the day.
During an interview on the golf course, Kai said, “Yesterday I was I was going through my my voicemails. I saw a few voicemails for my grandpa, because if I call him, he always picks up, but if he doesn’t, if he’s like, in an interview or whatever, he’ll call me back. And it’s always at like, 12 o’clock at night, and also sleeping at 12.”
Continuing, she said, “And I was looking back at, like, the voicemails that I got from him. And so it’s like, Hi Kai, how’s your golf game, or it’s your favorite president, how’s your golf game, or how are you doing, or how school, or what’s a sweetie is so nice. Like, I look, I went through all that yesterday and, like, it’s like, warm my heart. I don’t know. I felt bad that never picked up this boy on his golf but it’s okay. I always call him back. But like, in the morning.”
The American Tribune recently reported on a heartwarming speech from Kai Trump at the Republican National Committee, giving another view of Trump as a loving grandfather. “I’m speaking today to share the side of my grandpa that people don’t often see to me, he’s just a normal grandpa. He gets us candy and soda. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school,” she said.
Further demonstrating Trump’s interest in Kai’s golf game, she said, “He calls me during the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going, and tells me all about his but then I didn’t remind them that I’m in school and I’ll have to call him back later when we play golf together.”
She also noted that even amid the stress of the endless legal battles Trump faced, he never ceased being a caring grandfather. “Even when he’s going through all of these court cases, he always asked me how I’m doing. He always encourages me to push myself to be the most successful person I can be. Obviously, he sets the bar pretty high, but who knows, maybe one day I’ll catch him on,” she continued.
At the time of Kai’s speech, the failed assassination against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania had just occurred. Acknowledging the horrific attempt on Trump’s life, Kai said she was “shocked” when she heard the news. “Saturday, I was shocked when I heard that he has been shot, and I just want to know if he was okay,” she said. “It was heartbreaking that someone would do that to another person. A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell, and he’s still standing.”
