Colby Covington, the UFC fighter known for his outspoken support of former president and likely 2024 GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, recently lost his UFC 296 title fight against Leon Edwards. The former president was in attendance. According to Covington, the judges in the fight are biased against him because of his support for Trump.
Such is what Covington claimed during the post-fight press conference, alleging that the judges had a political bias that led to his unanimous decision loss against Edwards. “They hate me because I support Trump,” he claimed after the fight.
Covington spoke more about the issue during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” telling the FNC host that the judges were politically biased against him and Trump. “I thought I had the win. I thought I did enough, but the judges have never favored me. They hate me because I support Trump. Everybody hates Trump in this building. It is what it is, life goes on,” he said.
That is at least something of an exaggeration, as Trump received a huge standing ovation from the members of the audience when he appeared for the fight, as is typical of when he and friends like Tucker Carlson and Kid Rock appear for the fights.
In any case, Covington continued and explained why he thinks the elites hate Trump and are constantly trying to stop him and his supporters, saying, “I think they stack the deck against us because they don’t want we the people to have control of this country again. And that is what Trump stands for. He stands for democracy. He stands for freedom.”
Continuing, Covington argued that those who are bought into the idea that Trump must be stopped are going to continue going after Trump and his supporters, saying, “So they are going to do everything they can to keep us down. If it is in any sort of judging position in a fight, or any sort of athletic event, they are going to stack the deck against us. It is a sad time in our country. But we need to rise up and we can’t let this keep us down.”
Covington also said that he wants a rematch against Edwards and thinks he can win if he fights him again, saying, “I want a rematch. I deserve it, you know. I think I broke my foot in the first 30 seconds in the fight kicking on his elbow so I want a rematch with this guy. I’m going to come back stronger. I’m just like the American people, you know, we never give up.” Watch him here:
Covington had dedicated the fight to the MAGA movement, saying, “Ready for the American Revolution? This fight tomorrow night is for all the men and women of law enforcement, all our troops past and present, and it’s for the whole entire MAGA movement. You can delay us, but you cannot deny us. Trump’s taking back to White House!” Then, as fans cheered, he shouted, “This one is for America … let’s go”. Watch him here:
