“They Embrace the Criminal Element”: DeSantis Sounds Off Following Slaying of NYPD Officer

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sounded off following the death of veteran NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, a married father of one young boy. Particularly, Gov. DeSantis argued that elements within the Democratic Party have drifted into being so skeptical of law enforcement that they now openly embrace criminality while turning their backs on law enforcement officers like Officer Diller.

As background, Officer Diller, 31, was shot to death by Guy Rivera during a traffic stop in Queens. Rivera had been arrested over 20 times before the shooting, yet was still out on the street and able to shoot Officer Diller. A round he fired from his handgun hit Officer Diller in the stomach, just below the bulletproof vest, a wound from which he died in the city’s Jamaica Hospital.

Speaking to Newsmax’s Eric Bolling about the death of Officer Diller, how former President Donald Trump responded, and how President Joe Biden responded, Gov. DeSantis said, “They get no support from these Democrat politicians.”

He continued, “It used to be police officers, a lot of them were Democrats. That’s changed. The Democratic Party has turned their back on law enforcement, they embrace the criminal element and let the inmates run the asylum, and a lot of these people.”

Continuing, Gov. DeSantis sounded off on Biden’s campaign fundraiser alongside Obama and Clinton that he attended instead of Officer Diller’s wake, saying, “And, you know, Obama and Biden and Clinton can go raise 25 million because they’re in the upper echelon.”

Then, building on that and using it to torch the elites in the Democratic Party for avoiding the ill effects of their policies, Gov. DeSantis said, “So they’re immune from their own policies. The people that it really hurts are the people who are more working class and middle income Americans. Democratic party has turned their back on them. They’re really become the party of the elites.”

Gov. DeSantis isn’t the only one who has sounded off on President Biden’s seeming unwillingness to support law enforcement. Speaking to Fox News, former FBI Special Agent Nicole Parker explained how Biden was not there when her FBI partners were killed in Florida, something that made her and her fellow agents and officers feel that he wasn’t there for law enforcement.

Speaking about that, she said, “[Biden] was not there [for them or their families] and we did not feel that he supported our law enforcement officers. I don’t know why, but to see that he is currently at a fundraiser and is going to potentially raise $25 million is insulting.” She added, “Officer Diller’s life is worth more than $25 million. But I can also tell you that there are officers and I understand and agree when you don’t feel supported. It’s actually better that you don’t show up to the funeral because it is insulting.”

Then, describing the horrible predicament police officers are in right now because they are not supported by leaders, she said, “If you’re a police officer and you’re being proactive, you could potentially go to jail. If you’re in a shooting. And we call them ‘clean shoots’ when deadly force is justified, for instance, and you are in a situation and you have to protect yourself or those around you. Starting around the summer of 2020, we knew that we could potentially go to jail even if it was a clean shoot.”
