One of the main battles in the fight between DA Fani Willis and the lawyers for former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants is whether DA Willis and Nathan Wade began their relationship after she appointed him to be a special prosecutor, or before, Now, Megyn Kelly has drawn attention to the legal bomb Trump’s team dropped on them, one which, if true, shows their relationship began far before they claim it did.
As background, the timeline matters because it could show that DA Willis impermissibly profited from her relationship with Wade. As the two took trips together and he paid for the flights, her having appointed him to the lucrative post could, if they had been in a relationship before she appointed him, show that she found a way to draw a financial benefit out of the case. Doing so would be against the Code of Professional Conduct.
Adding fuel to the fire were texts from Terrence Holloway, Nathan Wade’s former divorce attorney, and Ashleigh Merchant, who is defending Trump co-defendant Michael Roman. Merchant brought the original claim of an affair against Willis in early January. The revealed texts show Holloway discussing the affair and alleging that it began before Wade and Willis claim it began.
Megyn Kelly then used those texts to obliterate Wade and Willis in a recent episode of her show. She said, ““It’s right here. The judge has this. He knows what we know. Terrence Bradley saw what Robin Yeartie saw. This affair was going on for years prior to 2022, and these two lied. They took the stand and, in my very well-educated opinion, told lies under oath to this judge, to these lawyers, to Fulton County, to all of us.”
Continuing, Kelly noted that Holloway said it was “insane” that Willis hired Wade and explained what that admission shows. “He’s admitting it’s insane she hired him. Why would it be insane to hire him if they weren’t having an affair? He’s saying right here they were having an affair when she hired him,” Kelly said.
She then went on to argue that the messages show that Willis and Wade were caught, saying, “This is not how someone who knows nothing about an affair sounds. Sorry. Nathan’s caught. Fani’s caught. Terrence is caught. Ashleigh Merchant has been an honest broker from the beginning and was wrongfully smeared by Willis.”
Kelly next noted that Holloway, in the texts with Merchant, said that the affair began before Willis hired Wade. She said, “[Merchant] says, ‘Do you think it started before she hired him?’ He responds, ‘Absolutely. It started when she left the DA’s office and was a judge in South Fulton. They met at the Municipal court CLE conference.'”
Then, turning tot he audience, Kelly said, “You tell me, audience, was she initially elected prior to hiring Nathan? Yeah, she was elected in 2020. Why would Terrence Bradley be saying you’ve got to subpoena her original security detail she had back in 2020? Why would he be saying those guys know it all if the affair wasn’t going on in 2020?”
