During a recent Fox News segment, Pennsylvania voters were asked about their view of Biden’s economy. Demonstrating a significant complaint many Americans have had toward the Biden administration, the battleground state voters offered a pessimistic outlook of the U.S. economy.
A Fox News reporter walked around a restaurant in Warminster, Pennsylvania, asking one patron, “How do you feel about this economy under Joe Biden?” The individual suggested that it couldn’t be in a worse state, feeling as if Biden is indifferent toward the plight of the middle class. “I really believe it’s the worst it’s ever been. We need to get somebody like Trump back in office because he really cares about the middle-class people. Biden doesn’t seem to care,” he said, reminiscent of the economy during the Trump administration.
The reporter asked another individual, “What about you, sir? How do you feel about this economy under Joe Biden?” This customer echoed a similar sentiment, citing the pressure of inflation making his retirement challenging. “Terrible, terrible. I didn’t think retirement was going to be as difficult as it is right now. Gas prices are through the roof. Food prices. Terrible. We need a change,” he said.
According to the findings of a recent research project that polled a handful of undecided voters across various swing states, this pessimism toward the state of the economy is shared by many Americans. The “undecideds” unanimously agreed that Trump’s economic policies are better for the economy than Biden’s.
One Pennsylvania voter named Virginia spoke about business activity being at a “standstill” in her area. She lamented the difficulty of investing in the high interest rate environment sustained over the past several years.
“We have areas here in Pennsylvania where it’s just at a standstill right now. Like, things are supposed to be being built and the interest rates are just way too high for people to, you know, invest and start moving around,” Virginia stated. “The interest rate is so high right now and I know they’re trying to cut the inflation down, but like, if nobody is building, no businesses are really coming to Pennsylvania right now to keep us moving forward.”
Another Pennsylvania voter named Gigi complained that Biden seems unwilling to take accountability for the state of the economy.“I feel like he doesn’t even take accountability at all with what’s going on,” she said. “Not even accountability, like he’s in denial that it’s happening.”
Voters from other swing states, such as Nathan from Wisconsin, unapologetically offered his opinion of Biden’s detrimental impact on the economy, stating, “I think he’s been absolutely disastrous for the economy.” The Biden administration has been the subject of intense criticism over policies that many claim have exacerbated inflation.
For example, his anti-fossil fuel policies have been blamed for contributing to the sharp increase in energy prices Americans have endured. Furthermore, Biden pushed for incessant fiscal spending as inflation reached record highs. With the economy often being a top-of-mind issue for voters, this negative sentiment toward the economy could pose a real challenge for the Biden administration.
