Recently, Ana Navarro, a co-host on ABC’s “The View,” suggested that Joe Biden is the “most religious president” she could think of in her lifetime. The comment was made during a discussion about former President Donald Trump’s recent remarks to Christian voters.
According to Navarro, Biden is a “practicing Catholic” who attends church while dismissing Trump’s claims that Democrats are against religion. She said, “It’s crazy for him to say Democrats are against religion at a time when we are led by Joe Biden, who, in my lifetime, is the most religious president I can recall. [Biden’s] not a Christian conservative. He’s an Irish Catholic church-going practicing Catholic.”
While Biden has often labeled himself a “devout Catholic,” he has faced condemnation from the Catholic church over his policy stances on issues such as abortion. The American Tribune reported earlier this year when Roman Catholic Cardinal Wilton Gregory labeled the president a “cafeteria Catholic” who will pick and choose aspects of his faith that suit his “political advantage.”
Furthermore, Navarro called out evangelical conservatives who are supporting Trump, given his past accusations of sexual misconduct, while criticizing Biden for his stance on abortion. “I think a lot of evangelicals crossed that bridge already and they did so in 2016 after they voted for Donald Trump after they heard him boast about sexual assault on video and on tape,” she added.
Regardless, former President Trump tends to perform far better among evangelical voters than Joe Biden. The Christian Tribune recently reported on Trump’s comments, in which he delivered pre-recorded remarks at the Danbury Institute’s Life & Liberty Forum on Monday. The forum was one of several events at the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“Hello to everyone at the Danbury Institute and to all of the wonderful pastors and faith leaders, very respected people gathered for the Southern Baptist Convention, annual meeting. That’s a big deal. I want to thank each and every one of you for your tremendous devotion to God and the country and your tremendous support of me and I hope I’ve earned it, because we’ve done things that nobody thought were possible to have gotten done,” Trump opened the message to the Baptist audience.
Trump stressed to the viewers that voting Democrat simply wasn’t an on the table if they value liberty and freedom. “These are difficult times for our nation, and your work is so important we can’t afford to have anyone sit on the sidelines. Now is the time for us to all pull together and to stand up for our values and for our freedoms, and you just can’t vote Democrat,” he added. Watch other
He concluded his video message by promising that Christian would “make a comeback” if he was elected president in the upcoming election. “I hope we’ll be defending them side by side for your next four years. These are going to be your years, because you’re going to make a comeback like just about no other group. I know what’s happening. I know where you’re coming from and where you’re going, and I’ll be with you side by side. So again, thank you once again for everything you do. And you have to get out and vote. Our religious leaders have to get their incredible people that love them so much and respect them so much. Have to get them out to vote,” he said.
