A comical and seemingly inappropriate gaffe of President Joe Biden’s from earlier this year circulated across social media when he was slamming former President Donald Trump for his supposed view of those who stormed the capitol building during the protests in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021, touting the insurrection narrative against Republicans.
However, when Biden was attempting to label the protestors as “insurrectionists,” he evidently misspoke and said something with an entirely different meaning. “He calls,” Biden exclaimed, while briefly pausing to cough before continuing, “the erectionists who stormed Capitol Hill patriots.”
The American Tribune recently reported on another gaffe from President Biden when he and Vice President Kamala Harris were on the tarmac for the return of released American prisoners from Russia. During the incident, Harris also spoke, giving a word salad commentary on the “significance” and “power” of understanding diplomacy.”
Harris said, “This is an extraordinary day, and I’m very thankful for our president and what he has done his entire career, but in particular, as it relates to these families and these individuals, what he has been able to do to bring the Allies together on many issues, but in particular this month, this is just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that rests in understanding the significance of diplomacy and strengthening alliances. This is an incredible day in their eyes and in their crimes.”
After Kamala’s remarks, Biden commented on the prisoner swap. “So anyway, look, it’s time to trust really. I know everybody thinks I’ve talked about relationships with foreign policy, much of it, you’ve heard me kid with Barack, all politics, personal, it matters. They trust you. You trust them and get things done. And that’s how this got down.”
However, while speaking about talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden delivered a major gaffe when claiming the killing of a major Hamas terrorist thwarted talks of a ceasefire. “Anyway, very concerned about it. I had a direct meeting with the Prime Minister today, very direct. We have the basis for a ceasefire. He should move on it, and they should move on it now.” A reporter followed up, “Is the chance for a ceasefire ruined after the assassination of Haniyeh.” Biden answered, “It has not helped.”

One of the biggest concerns about the Biden-Harris administration is the ability of the president and vice president to communicate effectively and coherently, a crucial skill for the executive branch that represents the country on the global stage. While Biden’s presidency has been marred with gaffes and slip-ups, Harris is more known for giving meandering, word-salad responses that lack substantive content.
The American Tribune reported on an instance from Harris where she gave a word salad response about how her economic agenda would be funded. “We’ve seen it when we did it the first year of our administration reduced, we reduced child poverty by over 50% so that’s a lot of the work. And then what we’re doing in terms of the tax credits, we know that there’s a great return on investment. And when we increase home ownership in America, what that means in terms of increasing the tax base, not to mention property tax base, what that does to fund schools, again, return on investment,” she said.
