Fans of the show “The Chosen” crashed the site where they could get tickets for it, Fathom Events, after news broke about when and where they would be able to watch the finale of Season 3 of the show. “The Chosen” is a highly popular series exploring Jesus Christ through the eyes of those closest to him.
That crash took place after the Facebook page for “The Chosen” announced the live stream telling people when and where they’d be able to watch the show’s two-part finale, saying:
On tonight’s livestream, we’re not only giving you Episode Six (which is intense!)—we’re also announcing when and where you can watch the 2-part SEASON FINALE.
And trust us: You’re gonna want that finale after seeing all that goes down in Episode Six.
Andrew and Philip deal with fallout from their mission. Atticus has “so much to talk about” with Pontius Pilate. Simon Z confronts his past face to face, and every faction in Capernaum converges on Jesus. Then just when Simon thinks the trouble is over, he finds more waiting at home.
During that live stream, Dallas Jenkins, the creator and director of the fan-supported series, told the audience that the two-part finale will debut in theaters on February 2 and 3 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Describing the finale episodes and building hype, Jenkins said “These are huge episodes.
Well, the hype-building worked, as the show’s official Facebook page later said:
Episodes 7&8 of Season Three are so big they demand to be on the big screen. And apparently you demand it, too, as the rush for tickets initially crashed the Fathom Events website. But now you can get tickets there or your local listing for our big Season Finale Thursday, Feb 2 or Friday, Feb 3.
As we explained in our big livestream (still viewable), we are still completing these episodes. However:
Our plans for the streaming release will NOT be delayed by the theatrical. Episode 7 livestream will be Sunday, Feb 5 and Episode 8 livestream will be TUESDAY, Feb 7.
More to come!
The website is now back online and functioning.
Christian Headlines, reporting on “The Chosen” and its incredible success, reported that:
It will be the third theatrical event for the series following successful ventures with a Christmas-themed film in 2021 and a fall 2022 movie that included the first two episodes of Season 3. Fans who don’t want to watch the film on the big screen can view the new episodes, for free, on its regular platforms – which includes the app – on February 5 (Episode 7) and February 7 (Episode 8).
The Bible-based hit series has been streamed more than 400 million times worldwide.
Three factors led to a theatrical release for the Season 3 finale, Jenkins said: 1) “Theaters have demanded it,” 2) fans are “demanding it,” and 3) the scope of the story demands it.
“Because of the success of the Christmas special last year, theaters are saying, ‘We want The Chosen in our theater,'” Jenkins said. “… They’re saying, ‘Please release as many episodes as you can in theaters.'”
Many fans of the series, Jenkins said, believe the big-screen experience is more personal and engaging, allowing them to laugh and cry alongside other fans.
And now, with the show coming to the silver screen for its highly anticipated finale, they’ll get to…so long as their excited frenzy doesn’t crush the ticket website again.
