“That’s When I Would Leave”: Sen. Fetterman Describes Why He Finally Might Leave the Democratic Party

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has proven himself to be one of the few individuals in Congress who is truly bipartisan and willing to work with his colleagues across the aisle, something that has made him increasingly unpopular with the Democratic Party to which he belongs. Due to his pro-Israel stance and his many comments and votes in favor of President Donald Trump’s war effort in Iran, Republicans have been talking about trying to get him to switch parties.

Fetterman, however, has refused such offers, noting that he is very much a Democrat in his policies and worldview, though he’s applying common sense to a lot of different issues and areas, thus he has said he would not change his affiliation. However, in a recent report, Fetterman finally broke down what it would take to get him to turn on his current party.

During an interview on Saturday, Fetterman said that the “big tent” of the Democratic Party has more tolerance and become more accommodating of individuals who claim the U.S. “deserved 9/11” than they have of Democrats who show strong support for Israel, explaining that this very issue has repeatedly put him at odds with the rest of the party.

According to Fox News, the comparison was made during the Texas Tribune Festival, which was held in Austin while CBS News chief Washington Correspondent Major Garrett asked if there were any circumstances under which he, Fetterman, would say adios to the Democratic Party.  The biggest issue for the Pennsylvania Democrat is being anti-Israel.

“It’s easier to be included in that big tent to say ‘America deserved 9/11’ or America is ‘worse than Al-Qaeda’ than being very proud to stand on the side of Israel,” Fetterman went on to say. “More and more members of my caucus are becoming more and more anti-Israel.” The comments Fetterman made about 9/11 trace their origin back to Islamic social streamer Hasan Piker.

Piker made the comments during a 2019 live stream before going on to say that he didn’t believe that Americans actually deserved to be attacked on 9/11, but was pointing out the obvious popularity of the sentiments among young Democrats. “I’m just describing that’s where a lot of the energy on the left is in my party,” Fetterman explained.

The opposition within the Democratic Party against Fetterman continues to grow as a vice chair has now called for the Pennsylvania senator to step down from his position, and that doing so would be “the decent thing to do,” as more and more folks outwardly express their frustration with the Democrat and his conduct in office, a report from the Idaho Public Press said.

Fetterman, according to the report, has voted less often with Democrats in his own party than any other person currently serving in the Senate. The Pennsylvania senator has several paths before him that he can take. He can ride out the criticism and run for reelection as a Democrat. He can bid farewell to the party and caucus as an independent, or he can switch to the GOP.
