In a wonderful moment from the Army-Navy football game on Saturday, December 14, President-elect Donald Trump was videoed sharply saluting as the Star Spangled Banner was played before the game. Commenters online loved the moment, arguing that it showed Trump’s status as a respected leader and honorable patriot.
Announcing ahead of time that he would be attending the Army-Navy game, a classic rivalry between the two long-established military academies, the President-elect Trump wrote, “Will be going to the Army/Navy Game tomorrow to root on these fantastic young men. Should be a great game. See you there! DJT”
Once he was there, sitting in a box alongside numerous others, including recently acquitted Daniel Penny and Vice President-elect JD Vance, the National Anthem was played and Trump was caught on tape performing a powerful, crisp salute and showing through it his respect for the flag, anthem, and American nation.
A poster on X (formerly Twitter) going by the name “Rodney” posted the powerful clip and captioned it by saying, “President Trump and Vice President Vance in attendance at the #ArmyNavy game. America. Is. BACK! 🇺🇸” Eric Daughtery, a Republican political figure from Florida, also posted the clip, saying, “AMAZING: Trump salutes the USA National Anthem. The real Commander in Chief.”
Commenters on Daugherty’s post agreed, leaving supportive messages for the President-elect like, “Bringing back patriotism and American pride. Thank you President Trump 🫡🫡🫡,” “Politics aside, that’s a powerful moment of respect,” and “Best president ever! I doubt anyone will ever be as good, but I have hope for JD Vance!”
Team Trump posted the same powerful clip on Truth Social, the president-elect’s privately owned social media site. Captioning the post, which President-elect Trump reposted, the Team Trump account said, “WATCH: President Donald J. Trump salutes as the National Anthem is performed at the Army Navy Game. GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY!” Watch Trump here:

One poster on X claimed that CBS was trying to keep the heartwarming moment hidden, sharing a different clip and writing, “So I’m watching the game on CBS and they won’t show this, this is why legacy media is dying! I can’t see my president Trump and VP Vance at the Army Navy game, but they will focus on Taylor Swift, biased clowns.” Commenting, one person said that CBS did, in fact, show the box, writing, “In all fairness they did show a shot of the box during the national anthem.”
Before the game, Vice President-elect Vance had invited Daniel Penny to attend alongside him and Trump. Announcing that news on X, politics reporter Reese Gorman wrote, “New: VP-Elect JD Vance has invited Daniel Penny to be his personal guest at the Army-Navy game this weekend, per source familiar. They will be joining President Trump in his suite at the game.”
Vance, confirming the news and commenting on Mr. Penny’s character and situation, wrote, “Daniel’s a good guy, and New York’s mob district attorney tried to ruin his life for having a backbone. I’m grateful he accepted my invitation and hope he’s able to have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage.”
