According to recent reports out of Gillespie County, Texas, a man was found dead last week after authorities stated that a woman called 911 for help, claiming that she had shot the individual who was trying to kidnap her. The deceased man was identified as 49-year-old Lance Damon Reid.
Per the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office, a 45-year-old Montgomery resident, later identified as Amy Maynor Lejeune, called the authorities around 12:42 p.m. requesting assistance, explaining that she had shot someone after allegedly being kidnapped and drugged. Deputies eventually discovered the woman near a winery off the 10800 block of East U.S. Highway 290.
“On Friday, March 15, 2024, at approximately 12:42 p.m., the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office, Fredericksburg Fire & EMS, and the Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department responded to a 911 call where a woman said she was kidnapped and drugged, and that she had shot someone. Her whereabouts were briefly unknown until it was determined to be near a winery in the 10800 block of East US Highway 290. The woman was able to describe a vehicle in which she was associated and the weapon that was used,” the police department wrote in a Facebook post about the incident.
When a deputy arrived on the scene, they confirmed that a male individual was deceased inside of a vehicle. As evidence was gathered at the location of the incident, Lejeune was taken to a nearby hospital, where an investigator interviewed her.
“A deputy arrived at the location and observed the vehicle in question as it was sitting in the outside lane of westbound traffic. The deputy observed a male in the front-seat area who appeared deceased and was confirmed deceased by emergency services personnel. Law enforcement and emergency services personnel met with the female, who was nearby. GCSO deputies and an investigator remained at the location to gather evidence, while another investigator interviewed the woman at the local hospital,” the post continued.
Reportedly, Lejeune and Reid weren’t complete strangers, having recently met each other and were on a weekend trip when the deadly incident occurred. “The deceased male has been identified as 49-year-old Lance Damon Reid, who had been residing in the Houston, TX area. The woman is identified as Amy Maynor Lejeune, 45, of Montgomery, TX. The two had recently met and were familiar with one another, and were on a planned weekend trip together when this occurred,” the GCSO added.
“Currently, this is an ongoing investigation and no other information will be released at this time,” the Facebook post concluded. No information has been released on the woman’s present condition or if she will face charges for the shooting of Reid.
However, according to Texas penal code, deadly force is “presumed to be reasonable if the actor: (1) knew or had reason to believe that the person against whom the force was used: (A) unlawfully and with force entered, or was attempting to enter unlawfully and with force, the actor’s occupied habitation, vehicle, or place of business or employment; (B) unlawfully and with force removed, or was attempting to remove unlawfully and with force, the actor from the actor’s habitation, vehicle, or place of business or employment; or (C) was committing or attempting to commit aggravated kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, robbery, or aggravated robbery; (2) did not provoke the person against whom the force was used; and (3) was not otherwise engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic at the time the force was used.“
