AG Ken Paxton of Texas has been acquitted, the border crisis is seemingly growing worse by the day, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott is sticking with what has worked so far at riling up former supporters of sanctuary cities and illegal immigration by sending yet more buses full of illegal immigrants to those sanctuary cities.
Gov. Abbott announced as much in a recent statement released by his office, warning the mayors and governors of blue states with “sanctuary” policies, meaning they don’t work with federal immigration authorities to deport illegal immigrants.
Well, now they’ll have busloads more illegal immigrants to not deport, as Abbott just announced he was deploying more buses to deal with the situation at the border. “Governor Greg Abbott today announced that he has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to deploy additional buses to Eagle Pass and El Paso to assist these border communities overwhelmed and overrun by President Joe Biden’s border crisis,” his office wrote.
Commenting on the matter himself, the governor said in a statement released as part of the announcement that President Biden is to blame for the border disaster: “President Biden’s continued refusal to secure our border invites thousands of illegal crossings into Texas and our nation each day.”
Continuing, he justified the buses of migrants by saying that border towns shouldn’t have to bear the brunt of seemingly pro-illegal immigration policies, writing, “Texas communities like Eagle Pass and El Paso should not have to shoulder the unprecedented surge of illegal immigration caused by President Biden’s reckless open border policies. I have directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy additional buses to send these migrants to self-declared sanctuary cities and provide much-needed relief to our overrun border towns.”
He then dropped a not-so-subtle threat directed Democrats’ way, saying that the buses would keep dropping off illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities until the border is secured: “Until President Biden upholds his constitutional duty to secure America’s southern border, Texas will continue to deploy as many buses as needed to relieve the strain caused by the surge of illegal crossings.”
Explaining how the program works, his office added, “In April 2022, Governor Abbott directed TDEM to charter transportation for migrants who have been processed and released by the federal government into Texas communities. To board a bus, a migrant must volunteer to be transported and show documentation of their release from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.”
Gov. Abbott’s office also celebrated the success so far of Operation Lone Star, its state-level attempt to deal with the illegal immigration situation. It said, “Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, the multi-agency effort has led to over 457,500 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 34,400 criminal arrests, with more than 31,300 felony charges reported. In the fight against fentanyl, Texas law enforcement has seized over 429 million lethal doses of fentanyl during this border mission.”
The buses program has already sent nearly 12,000 illegal immigrants to DC and nearly 15,000 to New York City, along with thousands upon thousands to other sanctuary cities dotting America.
