Texas AG Ken Paxton Catches Blue County Illegally Aiding Illegal Aliens, Takes It To Court

In some big news out of Texas, the state government has revealed that a county government has been caught appropriating well over a million dollars toward helping illegal aliens avoid being deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, which is illegal, and so Texas AG Ken Paxton is dragging the county into court.

For reference, the county at issue is Harris County, in which the city of Houston sits. With a population of somewhere around 5 million people as of 2024, Harris County is the most populous county in Texas and so also one of the most powerful. As a primarily urban county, it is also one of the most left-leaning counties in Texas.

Such became evident on Tuesday, November 11, when the office of AG Paxton announced that he had caught the county government allocating over $1.3 million in taxpayer dollars toward helping radical leftist organizations oppose the Trump Administration’s herculean efforts to detain and deport illegal aliens.

Announcing the matter in the press release, the Texas AG’s office explained, “Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued the Harris County Commissioners Court for unlawfully allocating more than $1.3 million in public money to radical leftist organizations that will use the money to oppose the lawful deportations of illegal aliens.”

Continuing, the press release went on to explain exactly how much funding was appropriated toward the purpose, and that it went to leftist, pro-illegal immigrant NGOs. It said, “In a recent 4-1 vote, the Harris County Commissioners Court allocated $1,344,751 in taxpayer funds for distribution to several nongovernmental organizations dedicated to fighting the deportation of illegal aliens.”

Adding yet further to that, the statement rattled off the NGOs involved, sayinig, “The funds went to radical open-border activist groups such as the Galveston-Houston Immigrant Representation Project, Justice for All Immigrants, Kids in Need of Defense (“KIND”), Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, and BakerRipley.”

Then, exposing the matter still further, the AG’s office exposed how the appropriation was not just shocking and absurd but was also illegal, noting, “These expenditures serve no public purpose and instead constitute unconstitutional grants of public funds to private entities to subsidize the legal defense of illegal aliens who ought to be deported.”

Concluding, it noted that the constitution of Texas explicitly prohibits such expenditures, saying, “The Texas Constitution prohibits governmental entities like Harris County from misusing public funds by giving gifts or conferring private benefits to individuals and groups that do not serve a legitimate public end.”

AG Paxton, for his part, commenting on the matter as well, saying that he would not let radicals in the county both rob Texan taxpayers and protect obvious lawbreakers, saying, “We must stop the left-wing radicals who are robbing Texans to prevent illegals from being deported by the Trump Administration.”

Adding to that, the Texas AG explained that this move from the county is both morally wrong and legally wrong, saying, “Beyond just being blatantly unconstitutional, this is evil and wicked. Millions upon millions of illegals invaded America during the last administration, and they must be sent back to where they came from.”
