Teenager Rachel Holt, the 18-year-old up-and-coming country artist who worked with country music songwriting legend Chris Wallin to create and release “I Was Gonna Be,” a pro-life song told from the perspective of an aborted baby, has already received great career news. Her song, buoyed by favorable news reports and her heartfelt singing, has rocketed to the top 5 iTunes country songs.
Mr. Wallin, who wrote the song, spoke to Breitbart News when it cracked the top ten on the iTunes country charts, said that really he was humbled and surprised by its success. He said, “I’m just humbled honestly. When I first started writing this song I didn’t think anyone would ever actually sing it. I wrote it because I thought something had to be said.”
Continuing, he spoke about the various organizations that helped promote the song and sent it rocketing up the chart, saying, “Now with the help of patriot organizations like Breitbart, Timcast IRL, and Patriot Mobile we are currently sitting at #9 on the iTunes Charts. Thank you for actually standing behind your values with actions. It’s rare these days.”
In addition to hitting the number 5 spot on iTunes country music generally, it rocketed up the iTunes music video chart, doing an incredible job and hitting the number 1 spot on that chart. Check out a picture of that success shared by Ms. Holt on her Instagram here:

Speaking about the hit pro-life anthem and why he created it, Mr. Wallin, who wrote songs for huge country hits like Toby Keith and Kenny Chensy, said, “I just wanted people to hear the voice of the voiceless.” Continuing, he explained that he thinks God helped with the song and message, saying, “I truly believe this is a God thing that happened.”
Continuing, he explained how he thought it would be impossible to find someone to sing it given the content and message, saying, “I started writing this song for myself. I didn’t think anyone would have the courage to sing this.” However, he was able to find a singer. He realized as much right away when he met 18-year-old Rachel Holt, a newcomer to the country music industry from Indiana.
Explaining how Ms. Holt got on board with singing “I Was Gonna Be,” Wallin said, “I played her the song and her first words, she goes, ‘I’m singing that song.” Walling went on to add that Ms. Holt told him, after hearing the song, “I think a lot of the songs that girls my age listen to never talk about real life. And that’s what I want to do.”
Wallin then went on to explain that he told Ms. Holt that singing “I Was Gonna Be” would carry significant risk for her as a musician. He told her that “there are people who are going to be visceral about this song — on both sides. Good and bad.” She was apparently not dissuaded by his warnings and, when he was done, told him, “I don’t care.”
