According to the results of a recent poll, support for pop star Taylor Swift’s initiative to encourage her fans to vote. In recent years, Swift has gotten more involved in politics using her platform to support Democrats and promote voting initiatives. The singer recently endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris following the presidential debate last week, in a controversial move that has divided fans.
The findings from the Monmouth University survey indicate that 53% of respondents approve of Swift’s voting encouragement that she offered on social media immediately after the ABC News presidential debate. While applauding the Harris-Walz campaign on issues such as the LGBT community, she urged her audience to do their research and vote.
Notably, Swift’s support for Swift’s voter initiatives is down 15 points compared to 68% in a Monmouth survey conducted earlier this year in February. At the time, a conspiracy theory suggested that Swift, who endorsed Biden in 2020, was working alongside the federal government to help President Joe Biden win reelection later this year.
“Republicans were wary of Swift all along. What we don’t know is whether this will have any effect on the part of her fan base who already leans right,” Monmouth University Polling Institute director Patrick Murray said discussing the implications of Swift’s political involvement.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”
The American Tribune previously reported on the controversial swift endorsement, outlining her support for the Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country,” Swift began.
Swift continued, discussing fake AI-generated images of her endorsing Donald Trump. “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” she said. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
