Taylor Swift Gets More Bad News, Popularity Keeps Falling, after Kamala Endorsement

Pop star Taylor Swift has received more bad news following her controversial endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this month.  According to recent reports, the singer’s popularity among registered voters continued to decline after she voiced her stance in the 2024 election.  In recent years, Swift has become increasingly political, dividing her fanbase among the intense polarization across society.

Polling suggests that Swift’s favorability among all registered voters fell compared to last year, declining from 40 percent in 2023 to 33 percent this year, according to the results of a poll conducted by NBC News.  It was also discovered that 16 percent had a negative attitude toward Swift last year, where that figure has increased to 27 percent this year.  Among Independents, 34 percent had a positive attitude toward Swift last year, which has dropped to 26 percent this year.

The American Tribune recently reported on the findings of another poll from that indicated Swift had a substantial drop off in Republican support after her Harris endorsement.  Co-founder of J.L. Partners James Johnson said, “It’s finally happened: Taylor Swift has turned from Miss Americana to The Archer in the political crossfire.” He added, “She is now viewed like many other things in American discourse, from the economy to news networks: through a partisan lens.”

“Though this one might not have had much of an impact immediately, if Swift is active in October in encouraging young people to vote, it could make a difference in swing states with tight margins. Harris certainly needs her help: our polling shows that 18-29 year olds heavily support Harris but are also some of the least enthusiastic about their vote in November. If that changes, Donald Trump is not Out of the Woods just yet,” Johnson continued.

Swift’s endorsement, which immediately after the controversial September 10 presidential debate, through a lengthy Instagram post began, “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”

Calling out the concern of artificial intelligence, she said, “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

Swift claimed that a key reason for her support of Tim Walz was his stance toward the LGBT community,  “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
