In some absolutely massive news first announced back in April, a Democratic politician in Georgia known for his radical views, Carl Sprayberry, was caught by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) in a major human trafficking sting operation that lasted for four days and targeted online child predators.
As background, Sprayberry ran for the Georgia House of Representatives as a Democrat in 2024. Though he lost the election, and worked as a chef rather than a political representative at the time of his April arrest, he gained notoriety during the election as a Democrat who called for the assassination of President Donald Trump.
In any case, the GBI announced on April 28 of 2025 that former Democratic candidate Sprayberry was one of nineteen alleged child predators captured as part of a four-day operation targeting child predators and human traffickers called “Operation Lights Out.”
Beginning the press release announcing the arrests and describing the operation, the GBI said, “A four-day proactive online undercover investigation, coordinated by the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, resulted in the arrest of 19 people on numerous charges, including human trafficking charges. The operation, named ‘Operation Lights Out,’ ran from April 24 through April 28, 2025.”
Continuing, it described the sort of absolutely reprehensible individuals it focused on catching and taking off the streets as part of the operation, saying, “The goal of “Operation Lights Out” was to identify persons who engage in sexually explicit communication with children on the Internet, arrange to engage in a sex act with the child, and then travel to meet the child for the purpose of having sex.”
Describing yet more of the stomach-churning details of the crimes those caught in the operation were attempting to commit, the GBI noted, “Additionally, the operation targeted those who are willing to exploit children by purchasing sex with a minor. Online child predators use social media sites, messaging apps, and websites on the Internet to find children, begin conversations with them, introduce sexual content, and arrange a meeting with the child for the purpose of having sex. Boys and girls are both targeted by these predators.”
Later, describing how the alleged child predators like Sprayberry were caught, the GBI noted, “During ‘Operation Lights Out,’ undercover investigators posing as children had numerous exchanges with persons on various social media and Internet platforms. During many of these exchanges, the subjects directed conversations with the child towards sex.”

And, describing the sickening number of cases that came out of the sting operation, in addition to the headline number of individuals caught, the GBI noted, “35 cases were established that met the threshold for arrest. 19 of those cases were concluded with arrests after the perpetrator attempted to meet the ‘child’ in person.”
Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman, commenting on the situation, called on parents to be vigilant in helping their children avoid these predators online, saying, “I want to make a plea with parents to closely monitor your children to ensure they are not communicating with these individuals. These predators will travel from near and far to victimize your children. We take these crimes against children very seriously. It will be our focus to find these predators so they may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
