Swalwell Desperately Tries to Counterattack after the Trump Administration Catches Him in Mortgage Fraud

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is trying desperately to counterattack the Trump Administration after being caught in what appears to be a major mortgage fraud scandal, and has done so in a lawsuit in which he accuses the Federal Housing Finance Agency Director, Bill Pulte, of unfairly exposing mortgage fraud crimes that Democrats have committed.

For reference, Director Pulte has used mortgage records to show that a number of high-profile Democrats, including Rep. Swalwell, Sen. Adam Schiff, and Letitia James, appear to have committed mortgage fraud crimes, primarily by claiming a second home as their primary residence so as to obtain a lower mortgage rate.

Rep. Swalwell’s suit, which was filed on Tuesday, November 25, insists that Director Pulte abused his position to obtain their mortgage records and use those records in criminal referrals to the Department of Justice. Particularly, it argues that the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) did not have the authority to obtain, use or leak private data belonging to several prominent Democrats, though why the mortgage director couldn’t ensure mortgage crimes are prosecuted is unclear.

Issuing a fury-filled and breathless statement on the situation that was as strident as it was ridiculous, Rep. Swalwell insisted,  “Today I have filed a civil lawsuit against FHA director Bill Pulte for violating the Privacy Act and First Amendment. Director Pulte has combed through private records of political opponents. To silence them.”

Continuing, he bizarrely maintained that the First Amendment means he can get away with mortgage fraud, saying, “There’s a reason the First Amendment – the freedom of speech – comes before all others. As George Orwell said, ‘If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.'”

Commenters on Rep. Swalwell’s post roasted him, saying things like “Did you get caught? Can anyone sue the investigator when they get caught? Can anyone sue the IRS for auditing them? Or just privileged political class?” and “Suing someone over accessing publicly available documents. bold. brave.”

Others said things like “Doesn’t sound like something an innocent man would do” and “Oh discovery will be a laugh … Digging up crimes of Politicians is not something that you can sue over. You will be laughed out of Court.” Another asked, “How can you run for governor of California when your primary residence is in DC?”

Commenting on the absurdity of the case, one account wrote, “Swalwell is suing Bill Pulte after Pulte referred his suspicious mortgage records to DOJ. Swalwell isn’t denying misconduct, he’s claiming it’s unfair the gov reviewed his documents after he pushed four probes into Trump’s family.”

That account added that Swalwell isn’t even disputing the accuracy of the charges, saying, “Democrat Rep Eric Swalwell filed a lawsuit demanding Trump official Bill Pulte withdraw a criminal referral tied to irregularities in Swalwell’s federally backed mortgage documents. The same Swalwell spent years supporting investigations of Trump and his family across multiple jurisdictions. Now he claims the disclosure of his own records damaged his political ambitions. Swalwell accuses Pulte of aiding Trump’s “retribution,” even though the lawsuit never disputes the accuracy of the underlying financial documents.”
