Superman is coming back, and he is bringing back patriotism with him. DC Comics infamously dropped a portion of the superheroes famous catch-phrase, “Truth, justice, and the American way” back in 2021 to virtue signal to the woke crowd.
Now, after attempts to have a gay Superman failed, and comic book and movie audiences have show time and again that they crave a less woke, more normal product, Hollywood may finally be listening. Breitbart reports:
The upcoming Superman movie to be directed by James Gunn is set to restore the “American way” portion of Superman’s ages-old motto after DC Comics removed the patriotic segment back in 2021.
As Breitbart News reported in Oct. of 2021, DC Comics dumped the Man of Steel’s “America” replacing it with “a better tomorrow” by rewriting the original slogan — “truth, justice, and the American way” — to read “truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.”
James Gunn, the man hired to correct the mess Warner Bros. has made of its DC universe of movies, seems to be trying to pull Superman back out of the extreme wokeness by returning the character’s heritage.
The new movie is set to be released in 2025, and it appears Warner Brothers is looking to ply the long game in terms of what will be popular over two years from now.
Movies with woke themes and overt virtue signaling have been bombing at the box office regardless of content and who is making them. Even the much ballyhooed Marvel series has seen a sharp decline in interest. People simply are sick of the identity politics and forced diversity. Breitbart continued:
According to the Daily Mail, Gunn is reversing the comic company’s elimination of “America” and returning Superman to his roots in the upcoming movie set for release in 2025.
Warner has released a synopsis of the coming film that returns “America” to its rightful place in Superman’s motto.
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” the press release says. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Little is known about the script or cast yet. However, if DC has learned anything at all from the debacle that was the gay iteration of Superman, or any of the other films that have tanked with woke themes despite big budgets and wide advertisement (Shazam: Fury of the Gods), then this script should be brimming with good, old fashions patriotism. Breitbart concluded:
After all, at the same time DC dumped the American way from Superman’s slogan, the company also put out a gay Superman comic that was a total embarrassment in sales. The book was canceled after only 18 issues.
The woke themes suffered a major backlash from comic book fans and others, and even caused one of DC’s artists to quit the company and start his own anti-woke comics. And his new comic later raked in $3 million upon its debut, proving how hungry comics fans are for a non-woke product.
Gunn, recently posted a series of messages to social media explaining his involvement in the world of Superman and confirming that he is going to direct the next film by bringing him back to his “heritage.”
If James Gunn has anything to do with it, that will be what we are getting. He addressed his involvement and excitement in a series of Tweets. It appears that this movie has a personal appeal to Gunn, and the hope is it can start to restore fun and patriotism back to a genre that was always intended to be both.
Yes, I’m directing Superman: Legacy to be released on July 11, 2025. My brother Matt told me when he saw the release date he started to cry. I asked him why. He said, “Dude, it’s Dad’s birthday.” I hadn’t realized. pic.twitter.com/ohQNV8nI4g
