We all know that many professional athletes, particularly ones in sports like football where strength and cardio capability are both required, look like the heroes of Greek myths. Turns out, one of them is actually acting like an Ancient Greek (in one respect, at least) too. That would be Super Bowl champion Derek Wolfe, who just killed a mountain lion…with a bow and arrow.
Wolfe, who led his team to victory in Super Bowl 50, posted about the new trophy he’ll be adding to his case on Instagram.
Beginning, he explained the situation and likely tried to stave off the hatred that comes with any post about hunting now, saying “🚨 Late Tuesday night I got a call from @huntnest to see if I wanted to stalk a giant Tom (male mountain lion) who has been wreaking havoc in a rural neighborhood.”
Continuing, he explained the problems the mountain lion had been causing in the neighborhood, saying “He had already killed two of her dogs and was living under her porch, nervous what he might do next. We found a fresh 4×4 mule deer he had just killed.”
Then Wolfe got to the exciting part: the hunt. Describing the lung-searing hike to find the mountain lion and get a (bow) shot off, he said “We hiked straight up 2500ft and down the other side, then back up again, back down the other side and then back up again to 9600ft.”
But then he got to where he needed to be and was able to get off a shot, even if his body was on the verge of giving out at the time. Describing that, he said “Exhausted, dehydrated, cramping I drew back my @hoytbowhunting and sent an @sevrbroadheads through him.”
So a success! But the trial of strength wasn’t over. He then had to get the mountain lion, which was about as big as him, down the mountain. Describing that, he said “Then I had to crawl backwards down the mountain with him to get him to the truck I fell 10ft off a rock face on the way down lol. Any guess how big this thing was ? #rockymountains #mountainlion #bowhunting #bowhunterplanet #hello”
Here’s a picture of him with the massive creature:

Imagine being face to face with that thing and only having a bow and arrow!
People on Twitter, commenting on the above post, largely cheered Wolfe and his successful hunt, saying positive things such as:
“Good, I live in a mountain town and I hate these damn things. They aren’t afraid of people at all anymore and I’ve seen too many pets being carried off by these cats.”
“Congrats dude. Everyone says what they wish until one of these things drag off some kid. It’s unfortunate that we come into contact with them but you did good!”
“Apex predator starts hunting and killing pets/non traditional food sources = they are sick or old. Most ‘Man-eaters’ in India can’t catch their usual food source. The gentleman here is preventing a tragedy. After Pets comes children…”
