Strawberry the pitbull is like most domesticated canines: She simply wants a loving home. Of course, pit bulls should be outlawed as pets but that’s a separate issue.
Strawberry found herself in a tough spot recently, relocating from shelter to shelter and on the verge of being euthanized, before being rescued by a California family. In most cases, this simple premise would hardly be noteworthy, but making the pitbull’s story unique was the fact that Strawberry had an unusual nickname and appearance.
Strawberry, like her nickname implies, presents with a unicorn-like structure on the top of her head. It made her difficult to place, rendering her a likely statistic of the sad but all-too-common fate awaiting animals who have extended stays in shelters.
Fortunately, staff members at the La Belle Foundation grew to love her and worked hard to give her a loving home.

“Strawberry is our sweet pittie girl that we saved from euthanasia at the shelter! We saw Strawberry’s shelter picture in a state of such neglect and we knew we needed to save her. Her skin was bright pink from infection, covered in mange and she had 2 large lumps on her head,” the foundation’s Instagram post read.
It continued: “After several weeks of testing, a bone biopsy, and an MRI, we have discovered the lumps on her head are just scar tissue from an old injury and nothing life threatening. However, in her X-rays, our vet told us he saw foreign objects in her stomach that seemed to be rocks. On Monday, Strawberry underwent surgery to remove the rocks and was spayed, but we will not be removing the scar tissue from her head. Removing the tissue would be solely for cosmetic purposes and runs the risk of inducing brain trauma.”
“We love our little unicorn just the way she is and we know we will find someone who feels the same! She is currently healing with our founder and her skin has already made huge progress. We are thrilled that Strawberry is here with us and we can’t wait for her to experience a long healthy happy life full of love,” it finished up.
“Thank you @earlskakel and @taylour for loving on Strawberry and sharing her story!” the post concluded.
Breitbart News said that the pup had suffered from a previous inspection and had two resulting lumps on his head from past injuries. Breitbart added:
It was eventually determined that the bumps are scar tissue from a previous injury. They were deemed non life-threatening, but the shelter said it would not remove the tissue because it might have caused her brain trauma.
Once Strawberry was restored to health and ready to find her forever home, the Kuhlman family saw her picture online and instantly knew she was special.
Positive news from the life of Strawberry reveal that she is now happily adjusted to her new home and family, where the kids say she is a “professional cuddler” and will take long naps on the couch with her new owners.
