On Saturday, the United States was shaken to its core following the attempt on Donald Trump’s life, where a bullet was likely millimeters away from ending the former president’s life.  The event, undoubtedly one of the most significant moments in modern political history, has drawn reactions from nearly every prominent cultural figure.
In the wake of the assassination attempt carried out by the 20-year-old shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks, a variety of different sports stars stepped into the realm of politics, extending thoughts and prayers to the presumptive Republican nominee while calling on the nation to overcome political polarization.  Professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau wrote on X, “Violence deserves no place in this world. Praying for President Trump and his family. Wishing for a speedy recovery.”

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III wrote on X, “I don’t care how much you love or hate President Donald Trump, now is not the time to play politics. Pray for him, his family and anyone else impacted by today’s shooting.”  Sports commentator Rich Eisen added, “Thank you to the heroes of the Secret Service who threw themselves into what appeared to be a hail of bullets. Find whoever did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. None of this is OK. Praying for everyone there in Butler PA.”

Legendary fighter Connor McGregor stated, “A 78 year old multiple billionaire he should be on a yacht on the med touring golf courses. But he is not. He is in Pennsylvania spitting out bullets! Running for the love of his country! God speed Donald! God bless the United States.” Reports indicate that McGregor has also endorsed former President Trump.

Multi-disciplinary artist, boxer, and wrestler Logan Paul praised Trump for his bravery and defiance in the situation.  “To survive an assassination attempt by mere millimeters then stop your security so you can raise your fist in defiance of death is the most badass thing I’ve ever seen in my life I hope everyone is okay Find the shooter,” Paul said.

Donald Trump also addressed the failed attempt on his life Saturday evening.  He thanked the Secret Service and law enforcement while extending his condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, the Trump supporter who was killed in the barrage of gunfire directed at the former president.  Miraculously, Trump walked away only having a bullet graze his ear.

“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Trump wrote.
