House Speaker Mike Johnson recently called for an end to the Republican presidential primary race as it becomes increasingly apparent that former president Donald Trump will secure the nomination. Speaker Johnson has joined a number of other Republicans who are actively calling for their party to unify around former president Donald Trump.
Following Trump’s decisive victory in the New Hampshire primary, Johnson congratulated the leading Republican primary candidate. The House Speaker further asserted that Congressional Republicans stand in support of the Trump campaign.
“Congratulations to President Trump on his decisive victory tonight in America’s first-in-the-nation primary!” Johnson said in a statement shared over email after the race was called. “Our House Republican leaders and a majority of Republican Senators support his reelection, and Republican voters in Iowa and New Hampshire have strongly backed him at the polls.”
Johnson continued, calling for unity within the Republican party centered around Trump. Johnson illustrated that it is paramount for Joe Biden to be removed from the White House and for Republicans to solidify a majority in Congress.
“It’s now past time for the Republican Party to unite around President Trump so we can focus on ending the disastrous Biden presidency and growing our majority in Congress,” said the Speaker, who previously endorsed Trump in November.
Johnson’s message came just before Nikki Haley announced that she refused to drop out of the primary race despite Trump’s unquestionable momentum. “Well, I have news for all of them. New Hampshire is first in the nation. It is not the last this race is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go and the next one is my sweet state of South Carolina,” Haley said.
“At one point in this campaign, there were 14 of us running. And we were at 2%. In the polls. Well, I’m a fighter and now we’re the last one. Standing next to Donald Trump. Today we got close to half of the boat. We still have a ways to go, but we keep moving up,” Haley stated.
The American Tribune has recently reported on numerous other instances of prominent Republican political figures calling for consolidating the party’s resources around former President Trump, who many believe has the best shot at defeating Biden in the upcoming election.
“People ought to get out [of the race]. The party needs to unify. We need to move on and focus on Donald Trump beating Joe Biden and Donald Trump being the 47th president of the United States,” said Sen. Marsha Blackburn, just before DeSantis dropped out of the primary. “It is time for us to put our energy into making certain that he wins and that the candidates that he is endorsing are going to win,” Blackburn continued.
“We’ve got a great candidate over in Ohio that is going to win that primary and is going to move forward and win that seat. We need to get busy on this. And Republicans need to get with the president and get on that America First and Make America Great Again agenda,” Blackburn went on.
