Angel Theatrical Distribution, the production house behind the hit “Sound of Freedom” film, which exposes sex trafficking operations, recently released a press statement in which it addressed rumors that AMC Theaters has attempted to sabotage the film’s release by stopping film-goers from watching the movie at its theaters.
Such rumors gained steam on TikTok, where, for example, one woman claimed that her ticket was refunded and she was unable to watch the movie when the AMC Theater at which she had bought it claimed that the theater in which the film was to be screened was having air-conditioning issues.
However, Angel Theatrical Distribution said in its press release that there is no conspiracy among AMC locations to stop people from watching its movies, and so the AC issue might have just been…an AC issue.
Brandon Purdie, Head of Angel Theatrical Distribution, addressed the rumors and rebutted them in the press statement, saying that though there have been rumors of AMC theaters making it difficult for interested moviegoers to watch the movie, those rumors are inaccurate. In fact, he added, AMC had increased the number of theaters screening the film due to its success.
Speaking on those points in the press release, Purdie said, “We understand there are rumors—predominantly in social media—that AMC theaters have made it difficult for fans to see SOUND of FREEDOM in local AMC theaters, and we want to make it clear these rumors are not accurate. AMC has been an outstanding partner for Angel Studios, and in fact, as a result of the movie’s performance and consumer demand, AMC has agreed to add additional screens for SOUND OF FREEDOM this weekend.”
Continuing, Purdie encouraged “Sound of Freedom” fans to show their Christian beliefs through kindness to the theater staff, saying that summer is a hectic and busy time for the staff running the theaters and so people should show understanding and kindness if issues do arise.
In his words, “Angel Studios and the producers of SOUND OF FREEDOM are asking our fans to support AMC, and all of our other theatrical partners. Summer is the busiest season for people working in theaters, so we ask that anyone attending a screening of SOUND OF FREEDOM show kindness to their local theater staff. We have the best movie fans in the business. Let’s continue to show theaters the love that Angel supporters are known for.”
After noting all the different movie theater companies that have joined in to release the film, the press release adds that “SOUND OF FREEDOM is based upon the true story of former government agent Tim Ballard who quit his job to rescue a little girl from sex traffickers in the Colombian jungle. In the process, Tim ended up saving 123 people, 55 of which were children, from one mission alone.”
Outside of any alleged issues with AMC, “Sound of Freedom” has faced real pushback from the regime press, which has attempted to slander it as a conspiracy theory film and has encouraged people to avoid watching it.
