Speaking during a recent episode of the podcast Unashamed with the Robertson Family, Duck Dynasty star Jase Robertson spoke about his father, Robertson family patriarch and reformed alcoholic Phil Robertson, saying that, quite sadly, Phil has been diagnosed with the “early stages” of the horrible Alzheimer’s disease.
Jase’s comments on the matter came as he described how the Robertson family had noticed that something seemed off about Phil and he didn’t seem like his vibrant self, so they were “trying to figure out” what his diagnosis was. Jase added that Phil’s doctors were “sure that he has some sort of blood disease.”
Sadly, though Phil does appear, according to Jase, to have such a blood disease, he also appears that he is in the “early stages” of Alzheimer’s. Commenting on his father’s state, Jase first commented on how the family was trying to figure out what is going on, given that Phil is in a bad way. He said, “Phil’s not doing well. I think I spoke on the 1,000th podcast, we were kind of trying to figure out the diagnosis.”
Continuing, he noted that the aforementioned blood disease appears to be at least partially at fault, saying, “But according to the doctors, they’re sure that he has some sort of blood disease that’s causing all kinds of problems.” Further, Jase added that that same blood disease had not just “accelerated,” but was “causing problems with his entire body.”
Jase then noted that Phil also has Alzheimer’s, and so is doing particularly poorly as he tries to battle those two devastating illnesses, with that battle apparently not going well at all. Jase said, on that point, “And, he has early stages of Alzheimer’s. So, if you put those things together, he’s just not doing well. He’s really struggling.”
Chiming in, Alan Robertson, who is the oldest of Phil Robertson’s children, noted that though Jase is right in saying that Phil isn’t doing well, generally, that’s not the whole picture; rather, according to Alan, their father has his “good days and bad days,” in much the same manner of “anybody with Alzheimer’s.”
Jase, further speaking abou the matter and describing what the family is doing to try to help Phil even though things don’t look great for him, said, “We’re trying to do a lot of things to try to figure out how to make him more comfortable, and maybe help with his memory. There’s a lot of different things that we’re doing.” Watch them here:
Phil previously said, when speaking to Fox News in an interview, that A&E canceled Duck Dynasty over a comment he made about homosexuality. He said, speaking to Fox News, “The ones who attacked me, I didn’t hold it against them. They asked me a question about a particular sin, homosexual behavior. And they asked if I believed it was a sin.”
Continuing, he added, “I thought to myself, that’s a weird question to ask someone, but I just quoted a Bible verse… I quoted what God had to say about that sin and nine other sins, but it was in the list of sins. . . . As we were doing ‘Duck Dynasty,’ the upper crowd at A&E decided to drop the axe on me without first looking into what went down.”
