During a rally in Pickens, South Carolina, former President Donald Trump skewered President Joe Biden for his seeming mental health failings, particularly recent gaffes in which he referred to Ukraine as “Iraq.”
Speaking on that, Trump noted that our enemies, namely China and North Korea, have mentally sharp leaders who understand what’s going on. Meanwhile, he noted, America is stuck with President Biden, who is very much not anywhere near the top of his game mentally and so keeps making glaring mistakes that expose his mental shortcomings.
Making those points, Trump said, “We have a man who is grossly incompetent who’s representing us, and if you look at the leaders of the world, these people are at the top of their game, President Xi and Kim Jong Un, and I could name almost every country, but we have somebody that’s not at all, but, while stating twice this week, as an example, that Russia is losing the war to Iraq.”
Continuing, Trump added that it would be bad if Biden only did it once…but he actually did it twice, which is indefensible. As Trump put it: “You can’t make a mistake by calling Ukraine ‘Iraq,’ and then you certainly can’t do it a second time, because there’s something wrong.”
Later, Trump commented on Truth Social about the thousands and thousands of people that showed up in Pickens to support him, thanking them for taking the time to do so despite the temperature and noting how impactful his support can be in tight races. In the post, he said:
“Rachel Campos-Duffy and Will Cain, two terrific people (along with Pete Hegseth!), were right this morning on Fox & Friends. Almost 99% of the people I support in a Republican Primary, WIN! “A Trump Endorsement will MAKE YOUR CAREER, A TRUMP FIGHT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT!” Over 75,000 people came to our incredible Rally yesterday in South Carolina, despite an almost 100 degree temperature. It was amazing, THE PEOPLE WERE GREAT. Thank you Pickens!!!”
In another post, he helped the law enforcement officers that helped with his rally, saying, “THANK YOU to all of the incredible Law Enforcement Officers in the Great State of South Carolina!”
President Trump isn’t the only one who has used Biden’s recent Iraq gaffe to point out his age and seeming mental shortcomings. CNN host Kaitlan Collins did as well, saying, “Twice this week, President Biden has referred to the war in Ukraine as the war in Iraq. I don’t have to tell you, he has been facing doubts from voters about his age. He is the oldest president, of course, in the nation’s history, that we’ve ever had. One of those instances happened as he was leaving the White House today. What do you say to people who are concerned about his age, and slip-ups, like the one he had today?”
Buttigieg, for his part, attempted to defend Biden by steering Collins away from the seemingly senile remark and claiming that Biden should be judged by his record, which Buttigieg characterized as excellent. Speaking on that, Buttigieg said, in part, “At the end of the day, anybody, in any job, ought to be judged on the job that they’re doing. And in just two and a half years, this administration, under President Biden’s leadership, has delivered more than many presidencies have been able to do in four or even eight years.”
