When Donald Trump ran for President in 2016, few thought he could win. Many celebrities boasted that they would leave the country if Trump won. Of course, we all know what happened, as Trump pulled off the biggest upset since David dropped Goliath with a rock and slingshot, but what didn’t happen is almost as interesting. The scores of entitled, whiny celebrities vowing to leave if their candidate didn’t win is impressive, yet none of them kept their promises.
Now, years later, even though hindsight is 20/20, many of those same celebrities are once again making hollow promises to leave if Donald Trump wins the White House next year after a four-year absence. It is unclear why anyone would want to flee, considering Trump’s Presidency was one of the most peaceful and profitable in American history. In fact, Trump secured the border, brokered peace in the Middle East, and presided over one of the best economies in our country’s history. Still, for some rich liberals, good times aren’t good enough.
Tom Hanks, Barbara Streisand, and others have already promised us they would depart the United States if the presumptive GOP candidate wins over Joe Biden. Now, two of the loudest voices from 2016 are once again talking about dusting off their passports and leaving the states if Trump defeats Joe Biden next year. However, social media is having a great time with the acrimonious threats this time. Will these same celebrities keep their promise? One can only hope so.
Recently, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus have reiterated their intent to leave America if Trump wins again in 2024. Both pop stars have reportedly threatened to “move out of the country” if President Trump once again is chosen by the nation to guide our great nation out of the current economic and social malaise. Social media, however, is taking the stars at their word in response to the empty promises.
As the stars made their vows to “peace out,” social media responded, often in hilarious fashion. One X user said: “I won’t get too excited because they’ve said that before and then they never do” while a hilarious Canadian Trump supporter said: “Not in Canada please, we have enough,,,.” Yet another encouraged a preemptive move by the two pop songstresses: “Don’t wait. Leave NOW. We don’t need either one of you.” It is clear that regular, working-class Americans are more concerned with their economic health than what rich, liberal elite entertainers think.
For Miley Cyrus she famously made the vow in 2016, only to backtrack and accept the will of the nation. She said at the time: “My heart is broken into a 100000 pieces…I am moving if [Donald Trump] is my president! I don’t say things I don’t mean!” However, apparently, she didn’t mean her vow to leave because she backtracked shortly thereafter and accepted Trump’s win and likely made countless dollars as a result of the roaring economy the 45th President ushered in.
It’s clear that once again, for no real reason, celebs are going to vow to leave if Donald Trump wins another term in the White House. It is unclear why, as the most likely scenario is an economic recovery and stability on the world stage. Perhaps this time, the rich and famous who vow to leave need to actually leave and let the rest of us enjoy the good times like we did before Joe Biden ruined the country.
