Sounding off in a fiery and explosive post on his Truth Social social media platform, President Donald Trump went nuclear on the CCP and China generally. In the post, the president sounded off by noting that he had made what he thought to be a very fair deal with it after it experienced serious trouble in the wake of his original tariffs, but then it violated the deal anyway.
As background, the original fight of this term between President Trump and the People’s Republic of China began when China did not back down and try to negotiate in the wake of his “Liberation Day” tariff announcement, but rather announced that it would be retaliating with tariffs of its own.
That, in turn, led to a tit-for-tat escalation in tariff rates between the United States and China. Eventually, the two countries struck a temporary deal so that things could be figured out in the interim, but it appears that China has breached the temporary agreement and that the cycle of retaliation will restart.
Kicking off his post, President Trump argued that the original Liberation Day tariffs and subsequent additions had put China in a terrible economic position, as the United States has a huge economy to which the PRC would like to import goods. He said, “Two weeks ago China was in grave economic danger! The very high Tariffs I set made it virtually impossible for China to TRADE into the United States marketplace which is, by far, number one in the World.”
Adding to that, the president argued that America deciding to cut off Chinese imports all of a sudden, in quite drastic fashion, was devastating to the Chinese economy and leading to serious trouble after just a few weeks. He said, “We went, in effect, COLD TURKEY with China, and it was devastating for them. Many factories closed and there was, to put it mildly, ‘civil unrest.’”
Building on that, he claimed to have not wanted the problem to get worse for them, and so he graciously decided to back off and strike a mutually advantageous deal before things got worse for them. He said, “I saw what was happening and didn’t like it, for them, not for us. I made a FAST DEAL with China in order to save them from what I thought was going to be a very bad situation, and I didn’t want to see that happen.”
Adding another positive note, the president said that the pause of the tariffs had been good for China and put it in a position where things were far less bad, saying, “Because of this deal, everything quickly stabilized and China got back to business as usual. Everybody was happy! That is the good news!!!”

Concluding, he alleged that the Chinese broke the agreement, though he didn’t specify how, and so he is done with being “Mr. Nice Guy” to them, implying that the White House’s reaction will be swift and severe. He said, “The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US. So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!”
Trump’s comments come after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent informed the nation that trade negotiations with China have “stalled,” telling Brett Baier, “I would say that they are, uh, a bit stalled. I believe that we will be having more talks with them in the next few weeks. And I believe we may, at some point, have a call between the president and party Chair Xi.”
