So Many DNC Staffers Laid Off after Kamala Loss that DNC Union Has to Create “Relief Fund”

In yet another apparent victory for the Republican Party in the wake of now-President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election, a whopping two-thirds of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) staff was fired on short notice, infuriating the union that represents them and leaving those staffers in the lurch.

In fact, as they were let go with nearly no notice and not any severance, the situation has led to the union that represents those staffers, the DNC Staff Union, beginning for funding online in a bid to help them out in a challenging job environment, particularly given the magnitude of leftist losses across the country.

Posting a plea for help on GoFundMe, the union said it was furious and noted the magnitude of the lay offs in the DNC, saying, “Last week, 2/3 of DNC staff was laid off with little notice and no severance. We are heartbroken to see our colleagues—who dedicated countless hours to electing Democrats up and down the ballot—depart under these circumstances, and we are furious with DNC leadership for failing to provide severance to those affected.”

Continuing, the union explained that the fund, which was only for $25,000 dollars, would help “single parents and workers expecting children,” saying, “As such, we are creating a relief fund which will directly aid staff members, including single parents and workers expecting children, impacted by the recent layoffs.”

But, in seeming contradiction to that, it also noted that the fund would be distributed equally to all those opting in, single parent or not. It said, “The funds raised will be distributed equally to any laid-off member who opts in to receive funds. We hope these funds can soften the economic blow for those impacted.”

The union then went on to note that it is still fighting for the severance it thinks the laid-off staffers deserve, though without getting into whether they have any legal entitlement to such funds. It said, “We want to be clear: the funds raised from this GoFundMe are not a replacement for the severance we are still fighting for on behalf of our colleagues.”

Concluding, the union pledged in the GoFundMe statement to make the fund’s payouts “transparent,” saying, “This fund is overseen by current and former DNC Staff Union leaders, who pledge to make the administration of this account transparent. For questions or concerns, reach out to us.”

Adding to that, DNC staff union organizer Jill Brownfield wrote on the GoFundMe page, “We are heartbroken to see our colleagues – who dedicated countless hours to electing Democrats up and down the ballot – depart under these circumstances, and we are furious with DNC leadership for failing to provide severance to those affected.”

Defending the layoffs in a statement to Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for the DNC said that such layoffs are common. That spox said, “Every cycle, political organizations scale up to meet the demands, and as the cycle comes to a close, it’s a tough reality of our industry that we must part with talented, hardworking staff.”
