Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) is not feeling the love from some of his fellow party members who are accusing him of gerrymandering a congressional map that helps Democrats. Back in 2018, Moore backed a ballot measure known as Proposition 4 that placed a limit on gerrymandering in the state of Utah. That measure resulted in a long, drawn-out war between Republicans and Democrats that created a new map handing Democrats a brand new blue seat in Salt Lake City.
Republicans fought valiantly to overturn the map in March, but alas, they lost the battle. Now the GOP is placing the blame on the shoulders of “Salt Lake Blake” and are now gearing up for a primary challenge. “To a lot of the Republicans who have served for a long time and have been in leadership, like me, Prop 4 is a slap in the face,” Don Guymon, chairman of the Davis County GOP in Moore’s new district, told the press.
“People are concerned, and I think we’ll see whether they hold Blake accountable for that or not,” Guymon added. In 2017, Moore began working with Better Boundaries, an anti-gerrymandering organization, serving as its co-chair. The group went on to establish an independent redistricting advisory commission through Proposition 4.
According to The Daily Caller, the whole thing backfired when District Judge Dianna Gibson handed down a ruling in 2025 that said Republicans in the Utah state House were not in compliance with the new rule as they attempted to redraw the congressional map and create four new seats in red districts. The judge opted for a different map that included the new blue seat established in Salt Lake City.
The GOP then tried to repeal Proposition 4, but did not obtain enough signatures, even though President Donald Trump gave the effort his full endorsement. Not even help from conservative activists from Turning Point USA Action could whip up enough support for the petition. Former state Rep. Karianne Lisonbee, who is now challenging Moore for his seat, told the media, “What good is a leadership position when Blake made it easier for Democrats to take the House?”
“We blame Salt Lake Blake for this entire mess,” Turning Point Action COO Tyler Bowyer went on to say about the fiasco. Moore responded to the backlash he’s received, calling it an “opportunistic thing, to try to pin on me.” He then ripped Judge Gibson for her 2025 decision, saying, “I don’t support what the judge did. She should have allowed for the state legislature to have their constitutional authority to finalize the maps.”
The reaction on social media was also not favorable toward Moore. One user went on to respond to the story by saying, “Utah is, based on Presidential elections, a deep Red State. Yet they send RINO cucks to Congress like this loser, Blake Moore, and their amnesty-first Senator, Curtis. Nothing will ever change unless and until States like Utah stop sending RINO cucks to Congress.”

Another individual commented on the mess made by Moore by tossing insults about his intelligence and seeming cluelessness. “What a brain dead politician this guy is. Election commissions organized by Democrats will never be ‘independent,'” the user wrote. Another individual wrote about the need for a true America First political party, saying, “The Republican Party, as a whole, is as corrupt as the Democrats are. We need an America First Party for true Americans that have no use for corruption, criminality and good old boy politics.”
