Trump administration Attorney General Pam Bondi recently responded to New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s suggestion that she is “corrupt” for pushing to drop the charges brought against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Bondi fired back, suggesting that Hochul was “not very happy” that she was just sued by her.
As background, Bondi sparked backlash for reportedly pressuring prosecutors to drop the charges brought against Adams. Earlier this month, the DOJ issued a memo that signaled they intended to drop the corruption charges brought against the mayor, who was indicted in September.
Hochul addressed the situation in a recent interview with Rachel Maddow, stating, “You look at what happened here. This is not supposed to happen in our system of justice. The Bondi administration in that Department of Justice is already showing they’re corrupt.”
Bondi responded to the claims during a subsequent interview with Fox News, in which she said, “Well, first, she’s not very happy that I sued her yesterday. We sued her and Leticia James and DMV in New York.” The attorney general emphasized, “So she’s not happy over over that we sued her two days ago, actually, so she’s not happy about that.”
Building on this point, Bondi added, “But listen, we have a right to protect the weaponization against weaponization in New York and every state in this country, and also national security.” She then suggested Adams only had legal issues after he began to criticize the Biden-Harris administration, particularly on immigration.
She said, “What did Eric Adams announce today that he’s going to open Rikers Island for these illegal immigrants? When did they go after him? When he started criticizing the Biden administration? He criticized them for all of their immigration practices. ”
“New Yorkers aren’t safe, and Eric Adams is going to keep New York safe,” she continued, defending Adams. “You know, they took away his security clearance, which he’s about to get back so he can help keep New York safe. Whether Kathy Hochul is going to enforce it, the mayor of New York will enforce.”

The American Tribune recently reported on other comments from Pam Bondi, in which she doubled down on bringing lawsuits against Letitia James and Kathy Hochul, while sending a warning to sanctuary cities that subvert the Trump administration’s deportation agenda.
Bondi highlighted that she has gone after various states that refuse to get in line with the Trump administration. “And so we started, of course, with Illinois. Chicago, and the state of Illinois. And what did we say? ‘If you don’t listen, you’re next. You’re going to follow federal law,’” she said.
“And New York ignored us, and they were next. And then if you’re another state, and you’re not listening, we’re speaking loud and clear, you’re going to be next. It’s pretty basic,” she added. “We want to protect the citizens of not only their states, but every state in this country, you know. And when you’re seeing just New York alone, Benny, look at all the violent crime happening. Look on the subways, look on the streets.”
