Speaking during a Monday, August 12 interview, attorney Leo Terrell joked that Vice President Kamala Harris has learned to plagiarize from President Joe Biden, pointing to a recent rally claim of hers that the government would stop taxing tips made to hospitality workers, an idea originally proposed by former President Donald Trump.
As background, Vice President Harris, pushed the idea when speaking at a rally at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas on the evening of Saturday, August 10. Beginning, she said there was a “wage theft” policy against which she fought as California AG, claiming, “When I was attorney general of California, we worked together to crack down on wage theft. When I was a United States senator, we fought together for paid family leave and medical leave.”
Getting to the tips part, she said, “And earlier this year, right here in Vegas, we celebrated your historic contract win. And it is my promise to everyone here when I am president, we will continue our fight for the working families of America. Including to raise the minimum wage. And eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”
President Trump had introduced the idea much earlier. In June of this year, as a reminder, former President Trump said, while speaking to rallygoers in Las Vegas, “For those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy, because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips. … It’s been a point of contention for years and years and years, and you do a great job of service, you take care of people and I think it’s going to be something that really is deserved.”
So, it was that claim of Harris’s and the earlier pledge regarding it made by former President Trump that led to Terrell roasting Kamala as a plagiarist. As to President Biden allegedly being so as well, Terrell was referencing President Biden’s alleged academic misconduct that led to him having to drop out of the 1988 presidential campaign.
Terrell said, commenting on the tips issue and plagiarism matter, “You and I, we’re in that political bubble, but the average citizen may not know Donald Trump came out with a no taxes on tips in June and what you saw this weekend, Kamala Harris, with no shame, plagiarized. She has a good teacher to plagiarize, Joe Biden does that a lot. Again, the media is playing soft on that, not acknowledging the fact that Trump is the author and the creator of that concept.”
Chiming in on the matter, the interview host, “America Reports” guest host Trace Gallagher, told Terrell that the Biden-Harris Administration has so far shown no indication that it doesn’t want to tax tips. He said, “And we should also point out, two and a half weeks ago, the Biden administration was giving people guidance on how to pay their taxes on their tips.”
Terrell noted that Kamala’s claim that she won’t tax tips isn’t believable because Democrats are known much more as the party of tax increases rather than the party of tax cuts, which is something that he said “everyone” knows. As he put it, “Democrats do not cut taxes, Democrats increase taxes. Everyone in this country knows that.”
