A common trope in action movies is that America doesn’t negotiate with terrorists because, if rewarded with ransom rewards once, they’ll just keep doing the same hostage takings and terror bombings over and over again. Yet Biden decided to negotiate with Iran and “unfreeze” $6 billion for 5 American hostages.
That move is under attack by those with knowledge of how geopolitics and the War on Terror, fought in no small part against Iranian proxies, work. One such enraged expert commenting on the decision is former Navy Seal Tim Sheehy, who is also the Republican candidate running to unseat Montana’s Democrat Senator, Jon Tester.
Commenting on the Biden-Iran deal in an interview with Fox News Digital, Sheehy said, “We’re encouraging our generals and admirals to focus on social issues instead of combat readiness. We need to really focus on getting our military back to combat lethality.”
Continuing, he noted that the deal is not only “shameful,” but also exposes yet more American weakness after the chaos and tragedy of our precipitous retreat from Afghanistan at the beginning of Biden’s presidency.
Making that point about the lesson this sends after Afghanistan, Mr. Sheehy said, “It’s shameful. Bottom line. After our Afghan withdrawal disaster in Kabul, which was another shameful foreign policy decision by Blinken and Biden, we shouldn’t be surprised at this.”
He next made the point that should be obvious to all, which is that unfreezing billions of dollars in exchange for a handful of hostages will surely lead to more hostage-taking, saying, “For us to continue to enable that, to pay them billions of dollars, to give them access to their billions of dollars of state reserves is doing nothing but empowering one of America’s most persistent and aggressive adversaries.”
He then commented on the message it sends to American service members, saying, “It’s a disgrace to all the American troops, intelligence professionals and service folks who have been working diligently for decades to try to contain the Iranian threat. And it’s really sad to see it happen yet again.”
Speaking more on the military, Mr. Sheehy expressed revulsion at its drift toward wokeness, saying that it should instead be focused on killing America’s enemies. “The United States military’s job is very simple: close with and kill the enemy. It is to advance American interests through military force when necessary,” he said.
“Now, we don’t want to use that military force unless we absolutely have to. And we don’t want to send our young boys and girls overseas unless there’s a very good reason to do so. However, we must always be equipping our military and ensuring that what we’re equipping them with, how we’re manning them all aligns with their mission, which is to close with and kill the enemy and advance America’s interest overseas. And focusing on social experimentation, social initiatives at the expense of combat readiness is very dangerous,” he added.
