Footage from earlier this summer went viral on social media, showing President Joe Biden getting heckled by protestors as he walked out of a church in Delaware.  The crowd of protestors, ostensibly motivated by anti-Israel sentiment, repeatedly shouted, “Shame on you!” as Biden walked out of the sanctuary alongside Secret Service.
Sharing the clip of the incident, one person wrote, “Joe Biden heckled in his home state of Delaware to a local church “Shame on you!””  The comments section was filled with pro-Palestine liberals lashing out at the president over his supposed complicity in the “genocide” occurring in Gaza, representing the stark divide in the Democratic Party over the conflict
One user explained that these are not pro-Trump, Republican protestors but center-left voters turning away from the Biden-Harris administration. “These aren’t republicans protestors , these are Democratic and independents and they are turning away from Biden. The Republican (Trump supporters ) voters will never stand up for Palestine outside of X spaces,” they wrote.
Other critical commenters questioned Biden’s faith citing his stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. “Why are any churches letting Biden in, and why hasn’t he been excommunicated by the Catholic Church? Isn’t genocide a big enough sin for these people?” one person questioned.  Another said, “Genocide joe goes to Church? what a joke! he’s complicit in genocide and the massacre of over 14,000 infants, toddlers & little children! & 10’s of thousands of women & men. despicable evil.”
In other criticism regarding seeming contradictions between President Biden’s Catholic faith and policies, The American Tribune reported on public comments from a prominent Archbishop in the Catholic Church, who labeled the president “cafeteria Catholic” who picks and chooses aspect of the Christian faith that are convenient for “political advantage.”

Roman Catholic Cardinal Wilton Gregory said, “I would say that he’s very sincere about his faith. But like a number of Catholics, he picks and chooses dimensions of the faith to highlight while ignoring or even contradicting other parts.  There is a phrase that we have used in the past, a ‘cafeteria Catholic,’ you choose that which is attractive, and dismiss that which is challenging.”

“I would say there are things, especially in terms of life issues, there are things that he chooses to ignore, or he uses the current situation as a political pawn rather than saying, ‘Look, my church believes this, I’m a good Catholic, I would like to believe this.’ Rather than to twist and turn some dimensions of the faith as a political advantage,” Gregory continued.

President Biden has faced numerous controversies with Christians who have taken issues with his administration’s policy stances on topics such as abortion.  Furthermore, the administration made a controversial move, recognizing “Transgender Day of Visibility” on Easter this year, perhaps the most important holiday in the Christian faith.
