Louisiana state Sen. Blake Miguez, a MAGA Republican, has announced his 2026 U.S. Senate bid, targeting incumbent RINO Sen. Bill Cassidy with a campaign video claiming “Bill Cassidy sucks.” Miguez slammed Cassidy’s 2021 vote to convict President Trump during his impeachment trial, labeling it a significant betrayal of the president.
Miguez described himself as the “MAGA choice” and highlighted his unwavering support for Trump. Trying to fend off the primary challenger, Cassidy dismissed the challenge and, through his press secretary Ashley Bosch, emphasized his conservative record and alignment with Trump.
For context, the term RINO, or Republican In Name Only, is a longstanding shorthand conservatives use to describe traitorous politicians who betray their constituents by adopting swamp politics and abandoning their conservative principles once they move to Washington, D.C.
Such was shown in state Sen. Blake Miguez’s hilarious announcement video where he announced, “I’m running for the U.S. Senate because Bill Cassidy sucks.” Building on this point, he added, “Today, I’m announcing my candidacy for the United States Senate.”
Slamming the RINO, he stated, “I’m running because the American Dream is worth fighting for – and DC phonies forget that. Bill Cassidy betrayed our state, our President, and our principles. As your next Senator, I won’t bend. I won’t break. I’ll stand with President Trump. And I’ll never stop fighting to put America First. Bill Cassidy had his shot. He missed. I won’t.”
Fighting back, Ashley Bosch, Cassidy campaign press secretary replied, “Anyone can join this race, but it won’t change the outcome —Senator Cassidy will win. He’s a proven conservative fighting alongside President Trump to secure our southern border, unleash American energy, and put America First. Senator Cassidy is fighting to protect our values and delivering real results for Louisiana.”
When the clip of Miguez’s announcement was posted to X, conservatives reacted with praise across the board. One such comment read, “Nice ad. We need MAGA. You’re an impressive shooter, 2A bona-fides. But we are in treacherous and chaotic times. If I might presume, more policy next time. Tell us how you intend to help and about your MAGA ideas.”

Offering support, one woman said, “You got my family’s vote!!!! So glad to see you running for Senate! If we can help you in any way, please let me know!” Building on this point, another social media said, “Awesome, following! All of us should run for some kind of seat, federal, state, local or otherwise. School board. No seat is too small. Need full on America first saturation from head to toe.”
Expressing a more skeptical reaction, one conservative said, “Another rival emerges against RINO Bill Cassidy: Blake Miguel. My personal thoughts are this: Blake is already fairly well-liked in his current district senator role in LA. So why not keep him there in that position and then help him win that district re-election later on in 2028?”
